Nows a great time to buy a SUV

Unread postby aflatoxin » Sat 08 Jul 2006, 20:22:00

At least according to this clown: Why nows a great time to buy a SUV
I guess given this logic, next year will be even better.

Well, in fairness, he ends the article by writing:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')So if you want or need a big SUV, now is probably the time to pick one up, before everyone else notices the fire sale.

which is probably true. Though, all things considered, why one would want or need an SUV is beyond me. :?

Actually more than one financial source has shown that if you only drive 8-10K mikes per year - the money you save on factory rebates, incentives, etc - will more than make up the cost of the gasoline. Just have to bet that gas does not hit $5-6/gal while you own it ;-)

Try 2015 ... because according to your link:$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '

Well someone is buying these things here in Eugene.
I have counted at least 4 brand new Hummers driving around in the last week...countless new BMW and Mercedes SUV's, as well as a few of the Cadillac huge-large-whatever they are. All brand new....one thing I noticed about several vehicles, they had one of those, "U of O Athletic Fund" license plate frames on them, first thing that goes on! So, I guess it's people with money buying these things.....As we joke from time to time, they will make easy rock throwing targets for the angry masses WTSHTF.

I can't wait until they keep dropping more and more. Once I start getting some money in about 5-7 years, I'm sure I'll pick up an SUV and/or pickup truck. I plan on having some land, so I'll need a heavy automobile to haul crap.

But how long will these last once GM and Ford start closing down? Thankfully, they are starting to croak and should be gone within the next few decades completely.

Ok, you would have to be a total bozo to buy an SUV now. Go ahead and buy on of those puppies and watch it depreciate like mad.

When these companies go, the rest of the American lifestyle will not be far behind.
This may be a good thing in the long run....but the extreme lack of social cohesion in the US and dire dependence on long long supply lines for just about everything will result in absolute societal chaos. Even those of us who have long ago dropped out of the US lifestyle will be in for it.
And don't forget the high firearms ownership. Or the presently pacified inner-city ghettoes.

Hi guys, May be you should build 5000 gallons underground diesel storage in your basin, fill it in and few years later buy a SUV cashing on "fire sale".
Than you may laugh of those poor PO stricken folks.
By the way do not forget to install small explosive device at your storage facility.
It will ensure that no one (even US government agents) will NOT get hold of your fuel.

I would have to sell my fuel to the poor post PO suckers for $12.80 per gallon. You know gas will be rationed and "if" you can get it you will pay $15.00 per gallon at the gas station. Everyone wins!
Let's see 5,000 gallon tank X 12.80 = $64,000, not bad.

Our family used gas guzzling suburbans and vans for rodent and weather proof storage, and a chicken coop on the farm.
My uncle buried a old bus for a tornado shelter.
Someone will be able to find a use for these things, even after the fuel for the engines is long gone.
I have a F-350 4x4 diesel flatbed dually. I filled it up the other day. I've driven it 300 miles since 2003. I wish I could read the last fuel receipt. The sun got it, but I think it says 1.47 a gallon.

Peak Oil, Global Warming, and Hummer

Unread postby Jack » Sat 26 Aug 2006, 23:15:39

How's that for a title?

If you go to Google Trends at: This Link

you will see a chart of the volume of searches done on the three referenced subjects.

It is interesting to note that the term "Hummer" gets for more searches than does global warming; and global warming gets far more searches than does peak oil.

The vast majority haven't a clue, nor do they desire one.

Shall we up the mean doomerosity rating? 8)

It is kinda funny; the one that can hurt them the most, they want to see.
The one they can't do anything about, they sorta want to see.
The one they could do something about for their personal survival and comfort, they don't want nuttin to do with.
I think the doomerosity setting remains about right.

They found out that the Mayans painted the temples with the thickest layers of lime just before their civilization died. The lime making process burned up thousands of acres of forest, without forest cover the land dried up and the corn withered. I'm sure that the average Mayan would have felt that it was absolutely essential to coat the temples as thickly as possible.

The Hummer driver is the same way. I'm sure that our culture is sending him (or her) a message that driving one is what they are supposed to do. It's amazing how popular the Hummer is. It is an icon of consumerism. I know people who went bankrupt because they just had to buy 2 of them. It's sad.

I can't stop laughing, you do know that 'hummer' is slang for a certain sexual act, so your findings are not conclusive. My wife is literally laughing as hard as me. Maybe try 'ford excursion' to validate your claims.
