Energy Gain & Social Organization: Joseph Tainter 2006

This is a really good, short, presentation with a good Q & A.

Tainter thinks that any chance we have of making a successful transition to a lower net energy future is being pissed away by the current dysfunctional level of political life, setting us up for “catastrophic change”.

The overall impression I got is that Tainter doesn’t think we heave the leadership to get out of this one.

SoothSayer,

I wish you hadn't put that picture of Tainter up... I was about to begin reading some of his 'stuff', but I have a strong aversion to fat, double-chinned guys with ties.

Why would that be?

Are you unable to evaluate a discussion or argument simply because the messenger has a certain "look"?

Definitely have to agree with him. My experience, with several branches of the Federal Government, has been one of vile, corrupt, special interest group control thugs, with a handful of frustrated, powerless and honest American’s thrown in to improve the verisimilitude of the situation. We might as well pray to the tooth fairy as to cast our hopes on Washington!

Doh!!! Forgot to add the 'sarcastic', 'just-joking' emoticon for you... BTW, are you a fat-double-chinned guy with a tie? If so, sorry if I stepped on your toes... Guess I'm just walking proof of the failings of our 'talking-head' visual age. But seriously, I do have a problem with fat-double-chinned guys taking about die-off... On the other hand, I will do my homework, and try to find out a bit more about the guy. From everything I read about his writings in the past, he sounds like my kinda guy...

Actually, I am from the states. And I agree with what you said 110%. That is why I am not in the US of A anymore.

Haven't heard any good light bulb jokes since the 70's... Good luck on the food thing in a few years!

Nice try... Unfortunately you (or someone else) didn't spell 'lateStarter' correctly. I don't think 'lateStarte' is the same unless you are French. Maybe it was just a technical hiccup.
