I am trying to get beyond your marketing speak, and giving your site a fair shake, but then I see more comical stuff, like this banner advertisement (archived for posterity purposes)

Man, dude, you are the coolest ever energy site!

This is seriously great parody. BTW, I like your links to "energybulliten.com". High-larious stuff.

Yes, chinks in EnergyDigger's software armour. He has not yet fully encapsulated and hid his information effectively. Thus we can dig up the great company of Deadeye Dick in plain site:

you should read a few storys on EnergyDigger.com and get educated so you can understand some of the basics of the oil inductry - then you will be able to speak intelligently on some of these subjects... good luck.

Congratulations on having worked for Deadeye Dick and living to tell about it.

Say are you still sore from that buckshot in your butt?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('EnergyDigger', 'Y')our comments on the final quote inside the ABOUT section of the website are indicative of the sence of humor of people in this industry (which you are obviously not) - this site was developed with the energy industry person in mind - something you cannot understand. You obviously have no sense of humor and little ability to develop one i am sure.

No more replies on this issue - I am bored with your ignorance.

As far as I can tell, he used two spellings. This is what I know about them:

Since we are talking about coding skills, it's probably ok to be a bad speller as long as you follow a couple of rules: (1) know thy keywords, e.g. private, etc. (2) be consistent in your spelling. If you use a scripting language, the latter is necessary, otherwise you spend all your time in test and debug tracking down unknown references.

EnergyDigger fails at the latter and I do wonder how he can program his way out a paper sack. Unless, of course, he is just typing away like the dickens when he writes these posts. Unfortunately I don't subscribe to the quantity over quality metric.

Thanks, even though I have mis-spelled algorythm, it is a lot of fun so far... I am not a professional programmer but fancy myself an efficient one... at any rate, the program is custom and not an aggrigator as one fellow has claimed - it uses XML information out there on the net to collect and post the storys on the site which surpass the tests (Algorythms) for relevance then scores them and lops off the stories that do not score high enough - then it runs through a little fuzzy logic that eliminates duplicates (Something I struggled with for a couple of weeks)... It is still in development but I think it is getting fairly close to something very useful - I built it for myself and then had some friends and collegues start using it - then I began trying to develop it a little better and it has just been a little something I have been working on for about 6 months or so - - the code is VBS because it is free - I just wrote it with a text editor and it runs every 15 minutes on a network attached storage server and uploads to the website from a remote area of the network so it doesn't take away from primary bandwidth of the servers - I suppose I could run it on one of the 3 DNS/DC servers as well - have thought about moving it over there but the network has been running smoothly since it has been up - thanks for asking about the site - any suggestions on the news portion and/or forums is much appreciated.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('EnergyDigger', 'T')hanks, even though I have mis-spelled algorythm, it is a lot of fun so far... I am not a professional programmer but fancy myself an efficient one... at any rate, the program is custom and not an aggrigator as one fellow has claimed - it uses XML information out there on the net to collect ...

What a fancy bit of projection -- an aggregator can be customized, just as a blogsite and a wiki can be customized. And the reason that sites put out information as XML is so that people can attach to RSS feeds and do news aggregation easily. They don't do it in the hope that the mighty EnergyDigger will come along one day and show them how to do it the official Halliburton-contracted way. Oh, how could we all be so stupid all these years, working in the dark ages Pre-EnergyDigger. Folks, don't even use Google News as it will just be a matter of 6 months until EnergyDigger comes up with a replacement. And in another 6 months EnergyDigger will have discovered the perfect spam filter algorithm and he shall be annointed the king of all the internets.

This is the same kind of mindset that causes many people to think that the only way to download mp3's is via iTunes. A slick bit of marketing on Apple's part or your boasting does not hide the fact that there is absolutely nothing new here and that the EnergyDigger site offers no breakthroughs in the field of data mining. I wanted to do this debunking because I can't stand EnergyDigger's kind of chest beating. But I suppose in the end, the marketplace will decide on the best source of information.

FWIW, several decades ago,I took a compilers course with a professor who could not spell for squat. Once we sat transfixed for several minutes while he tried to write "Label table" on the blackboard ... label tabel ... lable tabel ... lable table ... back and forth ... back and forth, he would erase the last two letters of each word and try various combinations ...

He never did get it right

But his PhD in mathematics, from Princeton as I recall, was legit and he knew everything there was to know about computers back then. So just because EnergyDigger has a problem spelling, doesn't necessarily mean he isn't telling the truth about his academic career.
