Hacking PO site: why ??

I don't get it. Why did they hack www.peakoil.com ?
Why hack?

I'm a senior software engineer and make plenty just focusing on my software skills for the last 25 + years and just reaching my prime.
Yet I never saw the point of hacking. There is the separation between "applications developers" and "software engineers". App developers use php, asp, .NET, VB, Zope etc... while software engineers write low level stuff including php interpreters, compilers etc...

I guess the hackers love attacking products produced by "applications developers", what they get out of this is beyond me. But they never succeed in hacking products made by real engineers.

I guess as peak oil bites harder into the economy all this "spare capacity" in the economy (it made everything cheap) will purge most of the hackers. Too much free time on their hands when they should be out working in the fields or walking 15 miles... Cheap oil makes cheap Internet connections such as broadband, all of it will be out of reach for most hackers soon.

How many friggen times will www.peakoil.com be hacked?
And when will the hackers move on and produce something for the economy?

I have been working in the consulting business since 91, and never could figure out why I couldn't tolerate .comers, even living through the late 90's boom in Silicon Valley I could not stomach working with App. development companies, and always worked with companies that built real things - I don't consider Porn severs real things...

All viruses are Microsoft based it seems, I guess PO will be nice in the sense it will give these guys something else to think about.

May I suggest that its time to get on with it and move to a more sercure forum script. phpBB is notorious for these kinds of hacks. Granted it's free, but its proliferation and the fact that its open source make it a haven for these attacks. Yes, they will now never stop until you plug the holes. PO.com is already posted on hacked site listings offering an invitation for others to do the same.

Try vBulletin w/VbAdvanced for your portal entrance for example.

remember there are 6 billion people on the planet. Somewhere someone is also in their basement slathering themselves with mustard and watching re-runs of Lucy. Sheer numbers ensure all forms of behavior will be expressed, including hacking.

I would not be surprised if the hacking was done by one of our CIA agents in Pakistan. Trying to distract us from the real issues, kinda like talking about abortion or gay marriage; you know, things that REALLY matter...

(although I am anti abortion (I think people should have to get a license to have children) and I don't give a crap who marries who)...

I know this has alot to do with this thread...

Why we get targeted is beyond me...

But ya gotta admire their moxy...

Oh yes... we did buy VBulletin and have it running, but have not worked out all the migration bugs yet... any help is most appreciated.

Do you know how many unemployed computer porgrammers, coders, and scripters are out there? Hundreds of thousands of briliant people were let go when when the tech bubble burst and many thousands more entered the workforce just as the bubble was bursting. The year 2003 was a peak year for computer science graduates but there were no jobs for them. Most eventually did find jobs somewhere else but they continue to carry major chips on their shoulders from what happened to them. They still have the knowledge of how to hack and many will use it to distructive ends. They have no creative outlet for their computer talents. As the effects of PO get worse they might start to single us out as the cause for them not being able to find jobs.

I was going to say maybe it was the white supremists popping their head up due to our continual owning of them intellectually.

But then I realized if you are a white nationalist/supremist you would most likely lack the capability to put together 30 minutes of concentration time to do it.
