$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Schweinshaxe', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Chuckmak', 'i') hack out my 35k a year living by breaking what you programmers create :-D

i love QA testing.

I love programming because I make 3 times as much as you do!

I'm young, handsome and make a lot of money by "spacing out". What else could you ask for?

Do you free market idiots still want to defend corporate socialism? This is a perfect example of it which I of course take advantage of. Before you suggest that my job can be replaced by anyone, why don't you become a programmer and take my job? I dare you! Take my job if you can! Just take it! It's there on a free mareket! Take it!

Prove that you're better than me and take my job! Do it now or keep your fucking mouths shut forever...

Was that a serious post? Are you really that arrogant?

If so, I can only say that I have met SOOOO many programmers like you in my time ... sheesh, I even used to have the same opinions myself.

Well let me tell you that you are NOT the world's best programmer, however much they pay you.

Also, if you a German programmer in Germany then I'm fairly sure that you would not be regarded as a top programmer in most other countries. I have worked with many German programmers in Munich ... not impressed, sorry.

More generally, what do you plan to be doing when you are say 45? Nobody will want you as a programmer ... even if you are still productive. It's a young persons game.

I suggest that you decide on a Plan B ... you WILL need one for your second career. Save some of that money to fund that Plan B.

You're correct we'll need a plan B.

I'm torn between signing up for with aaron for some raping and pillaging or cutting and running to the woods to hide from the pillagers.

I seriously doubt age will be the reason myself or Schweinshaxe finish our programming careers.

I went to school for programming, but got other IT jobs, like QA and now desktop support. Desktop support is a bit more satisfying than programming, because I am helping solve other people's computer problems, and they are graciously thanking me. Still, it can be incredibly boring. Some days, I do no work at all. Yesterday I played minesweeper all day trying to get my best score.

I don't feel burned out at all, but I feel like I'm withering away. I'm basically payed to be here as insurance against computer problems. Since everything has been going so smoothly lately, I'm stuck reading the message boards.

Well, I'm actually a Swedish programmer working in Germany but you completely miss my point here.

I pretend to be the best programmer in the World because I've understood now that hard work will not take you far. The point is that I've still got my job and my salary. The free market idiots are wrong! The "invisible hand" has not kicked me out on the street and replaced me with a guy from India yet. And why is that? Because I work in a socialistic corporation! Ranks, sucking up to managers and BS meetings are more important than actual work in a socialistic environment.

Think about it for a second! If top management would embrace the "free market" principles, they would have to replace themselves with people who actually know where they have their assholes and know how to open a door from the inside without calling the janitor.

And I don't expect this to last forever. I'll give it another 3 - 5 years and then I'm out too. I hope that makes you feel a little better... Since I'm not a Windoze, bling-bling, flashy screen programmer, I'll be one of the last programmers in the World to lose my job though. I'm an "organization programmer" as they call them here in Germany. I take core business processes and convert them into code.

My plan B? Well, I'm working on my survival kit. I just need a signalling mirror and then it's complete. I just don't know yet if I should go for one made of glass or plastic yet. Any suggestions?

In the US, even the managers are being outsourced these days. What were once fully American companies are now almost fully foreign run, operated, and managed. They did not realize what a blood sucking monster they had created until it turned on their own worthless asses. The "free market" is an absolute monster. These super corporations are owned by no nation. They are only subject to the free market which is sucking the life out of the human race.
