The third shaking of the Earth

So he said at this time you're going to see that things will speed up, that people on the earth will move faster and faster. Grandchildren will not have time for grandparents. Parents will not have time for children. It will seem like time is going faster and faster. The elders advised us that as things speed up, you yourself should slow down. The faster things go, the slower you go. Because there's going to come a time when the earth is going to be shaken a third time. The Great Spirit has been shaking the earth two times: the First and Second World Wars to remind us that we are a human family, to remind us that we should have greeted each other as brothers and sisters. We had a chance after each shaking to come together in a circle that would have brought peace on earth, but we missed that.

Tonight they were talking on the news about the sign for the Third Shaking of the Earth. I heard it while sitting in the airport after I missed my plane. They said they're going to build what the elders called the "house in the sky". In the 1950's they talked about this: they will build a house and throw it in the sky. When you see people living in the sky on a permanent basis, you will know the Great Spirit is about to grab the earth, this time not with one hand, but with both hands. Many of you of Native background may have heard "the spirits will warn you twice, but the third time you stand alone." We've had two warnings, the first two World Wars, but now we stand alone in the third one. As it says in the Baha'i Writings, there will be no-one protected. When this house is in the sky, the Great Spirit is going to shake the Earth a third time and whoever dropped that gourd of ashes, upon them it is going to drop.

This site appears to be from the Rainbow Family. This website has the stink of new age fraud all over it even though to my knowledge they don't charge money. Here's what one Amercian Indian had to say about the New Age Movement regarding Native spirituality. It's not directed to the RF itself but it does apply to them.
The widespread explotion of American Indian spirituality has become so problematic that the Lakotas declared war on the explotiors of Lakota spirituality. There's no such thing as generic 'Native Spirituality'.

Here's another site regarding cultural appropriation.

FWIW, I am not Indian myself and to the best of my knowledge, I have no indian ancestors.

I see the peak oil crisis and climate as a chance to build a legitmate community based on real values despite the incoming hardships and much dying. I do not know if mankind will survive this crisis but that is what keeps me hopeful.

The Rainbow Gathering came to my town a few years ago. They have the coolest buses I've ever seen.

I'm not sure if they were New Agers, actually they seemed more like followers of The Grateful Dead.

To pronounce it properly you need to say it all together with the emphasis on the second syllabe....

Newage.... (rhymes with sewage)

Quote from artilce linked above by Deaf Skeptic New Age Movement:

Jay Rosen applies similar observations specifically to the New Age movement. He claims that the New Age marketers target the desires of people dissatisfied with their lives; he characterizes them as "struggling with the contradiction in contemporary life between the emptiness of daily existence and the desire for a meaningful life." 39 Rosen argues that there is also compatibility between the New Age idea of personal transformation through spiritual enlightenment and the "Buy this product and change your life" message underlying most advertising. 40 As Rosen phrases this similarity: "Whether the product is a book, a tape, a seminar, or a magic crystal, the typical New Age commodity is promoted in exactly the same way as a new car or a new pair of jeans: as an instant, total, and enchantingly easy solution to a deeply-felt personal problem." 41 Rosen concludes that the dissatisfactions produced by consumer culture propel people toward New Age ideas. He alludes to the dislocations of modern capitalism, the scarcity of meaningful work, the strain on marriage and childbearing, and the emptiness at the heart of a culture that values movement and change. Rosen argues that in this uprootedness, identity can only be [End Page 340] gained in the marketplace. However, Rosen believes that the New Age movement offers no relief from this societal malaise. Calling the New Age movement "the unwitting partner of the culture it claims to reject," he argues that it can only carry the uprooting a little further.

I have been a willing consumer of these ideas. I have read a bit about shamanism along with all the rest. The whole consumerist mentality behind New Age is pretty sad and superficial. Some people however have made a deeper change in their life and don't just wear some T-shirt or necklace(like a cross for example). This New Age stuff is a similar rip off comparable to the Guru commune cult problematic. How do we separate wheat from chaff?

I have spent lots of time reading in various areas to satisfy an insatiable curiosity and to develop spiritual techniques and philosophical basis in other cultures. Much of this is real. Other people write so much fluff or BS. After a while you can see for yourself what is real and you don't have to read or study anymore. I already have my own ideas synthesized from own reading and personal experience and have heard everything under the sun and am therefore stable and safe from all the vultures going around despite my temperament with a deep spiritual need and openness to new things.
