Alternate animal power

It takes one horse to make one horsepower, but even today in the city you cannot house a horse (coral a horse) no room and no feed.

So take the common hamster. only 4,500 of them to equal one horsepower, this means my geo metro has 225,000 hamster power!
The squeeking wheels would drive you batty, I know, but how heavy are 220,000 hamster wheels?

The car wouldnt run!

an average coconut is 3 pounds and the tree is 30 feet high
8 falling coconuts equal 1 horsepower. If we plant enough trees so that on the average 8 fall ever second, this could heat the earth and cause global warming just a bit sooner than otherwise would have occured.

Whale harassment" is a federal offense. It's punishable by up to $10,000 in fines. Do not try this at homew.

A whale weighs 150 tonnes and can froduce up to 800 horsepower.
put one of these on a dragster!
But.. again the weight!

What about yaks, lamas, reindeer, huskies, buffalos...? :roll: :roll: :roll:

And you could check out the tread on using large goats to pull carriages (sorry no link, as I am feeling to lazy to search for it).

If you are looking for more work, but not necessarily physical power, then animals to some extent (as well as well places plants) can help with pest control replacing all those interesting chemicals that we tend to spread every where.
We should teach our children the 4-Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rejoice.

The names Donner and Blitzen stand for thunder and lightning, respectively! from the loud cracking. .Its a real problem!

Without their hooves they are useless for pulling...

And all that cow and bullshit that in poor countries is formed into cakes (usually by hand) and dried for fuel. A better improvement is to collect the waste in tanks and let the methane gas ferment off which can be burnt, while the remaining sludge can be returned to the fields.

But sorry you mentioned cows in your first post.

No mention of galley slaves? (images of low-wage workers pushing an SUV to the grocery store being cheaper than the gas that would have been used. Husband has to remind wife, "honey, I told you to save the gas for highway trips".).

My son has a VW that doesn't run so well. I told him it is a hybrid - it can be pushed *or* towed.

I read that pound for pound there's nothing stronger then an insect. Maybe we should genetically engineer giant beetles 2 meters in length to be used as beasts of burden! :-D

Totally not true. If you take the roe vs wade definition, than a human being is not alive until he/she is outside the womb. Perhaps hundreds of billions of people have been born and died, most of them dying in infancy or childhood. The earth's population remained stable for thousands of years only because of massive amounts of death through war, famine, disease and genocide. Before the industrial revolution, almost all women had as many children as nature would allow, most of them dying before they could reproduce. I would even guess that the amount of human beings that have been born and died on this earth for the 50,000 years we have been here probably numbers in the trillions. Out of those trillions, very few were successful in passing on there genes, that's how evolution works.
