No. It's more like Dorothy disrespecting the Wicked Witch of the West.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'S')he must have a death wish. Isn't a Dixie Chick a 'Confederate Baby Girl?' This is kind of like a ho' disrespecting her pimp.

I don't know about that, but I hear the reason they picked that name was because they liked that song by Little Feat "Dixie Chicken". According to Wikipedia, Little Feat was formed by two former members of the Mothers of Invention (Zappa's band).

Fine, but you have to admire Natalie for pretty much torching her career to speak the truth about our so-called president.

She should have stuck to her guns after her first lambasting of Bush instead of her idiotic mea culpa soon thereafter. She's too much of a finger in the wind type. It doesn't take too much intestinal fortitude to critcize a president with a 29% approval rating. I'm not impressed.

Ray Nagin likes Bush. I heard him on the radio saying, "thank you Mr. President. We have 3 billion for levees, 10 billion for housing. You made a promise and you delivered."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ') Natalie Maines isn't kidding when she sings, "I'm not ready to make nice."

In a new interview with Time magazine, posted online Sunday, the Dixie Chicks firebrand takes back the apology she extended to President Bush three years ago.

"I apologized for disrespecting the office of the President," Maines says in Time. "But I don't feel that way anymore. I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."

Let's hear it for The Dixie Chicks! [smilie=eusa_clap.gif]

Uhhhh, OK. She criticized Herr Bushkin in March 2003, as bombs were blowing away Baghdad.

Let's take a look at the Prez's rating at the beginning of the war:

Gee, 70% approval at the beginning of the Iraq debacle.

I'd say it takes some balls to criticize the man when 70% of the American public disagrees. Wouldn't you?

I sure as holy hell would, especially if you're a Country and Western singer and you know that the overwhelming majority of C&W fans are right-wing sheeple who have a very hard time admitting that Bush is capable of doing anything wrong.

Sure, but this is the important thing, BE CONSISTENT!

Maines finally realized her mea culpa back when"guns were blazing" wasn't enough to get her hick base back over the subsequent three years so she did the "brave" thing and and leveled Mr. Popular with her incisive criticism this time.

Her career prospects were doomed in 2003, with the latest installment (change of change of heart) being merely icing on the cake.

As a child of the 60's I must say Maines' opinions aren't any more compelling than the music she sings or the pot she pisses on.

Not so much the rednecks – she got on the wrong side of Clear Channel

Clear Channel owns about 1200 radio stations; exclusive booking rights to many venues, and lots of other media goodies and can probably make or break any artist.

Of course they wanted even more stations but needed a favor from the FCC. Clear Channel at the time was putting on "Rally For America", a support our troops type pep rally, which Carl Rove could have designed to make anyone against the war look like they were really against the soldiers – not to mention the tens of thousands they gave to the repubs.

Shouldn’t mess with the old boy network.

The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

The whole thing was a false statement to begin with. She Said "That they were ashamed Bush was from Texas". Bush was not born in Texas he was born in New Haven Conn therefore he is a wanna be Texan. If you are a Texan (me third generation) then you understand this. If he were truly a Texan he would have gone to Texas, A&M, or Baylor not Yale and Harvard.

IMO she should have said "Bush is not a Texan" it's the truth.

All hat, no cattle as they say.

The Texas schtick has played quite well for Bush, and I suppose it would have had to, considering that a simpleton silver spoon from Connecticut wouldn't be as easy to relate to as a pickup-driving, "common folk" man from Texas.

A "common folk" man that just happens to be son of a former President and Ambassador to China, of course.
