FoxV-- I will not vote you off the island!
I'm not of the Trump ilk (Survivor show fan).
Still I found your submission the most poignant thus far.

I spent my lunch hour working on an ad but didn't get the link when I sent it to my home email address. The competition is only open to US and Canadian citizens so maybe the rest of us get filtered out. The only line I remember is the last one "Who needs a big penis anyway"

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mekrob', 'I')t's idiots like these that make us look like jackasses saying the sky is falling. Things like this will just make people NOT look up Peak Oil, but to discount it immediately.

Why is telling the truth considered to be idiotic?
Half the World's oil HAS gone and considering that half was the good stuff and whats left is slightly better but further down the line, say 10 years its going to be so energy inefficient as to not bother using.
I say 10 years because since its discovery the use of oil has increased by 1.6% per yer, EVERY year except 2004 when it went up by 3%. In that ten years Man will have used close to if not over 300gb of the 1000gb remaining.
I know you'll probably argue that the 700gb remaining will give us an extra 20 years. Well it won't EROEI explains it all, and do you really think that in 10 years time that oil will be below the $68 pb with 300gb less in the world.
The only idiot jackasses are those that don't heed the warning I quote Ezra Pound. "Damn the man in the street who is only in the street because he hasn't intelligence enough to be let in anywhere else!"

They are idiots because anyone who comes to tell the cruel truth are drawn, quartered... etc, you know, shoot the messenger. The sheeple simply don't want to believe that their life can't be the same forever.

But if you watched the original (to which I was responding), then you'd agree with me that the producer was flat out lying and doing a disservice to us all. One of his slides read that the world is almost out of oil. We still have hundreds of years left most likely. It is true that most of the good oil is all used up, but that doesn't remove the fact that he was still shouting falsehoods, and he either knows it which would be lying, or he's a fool which is just as bad considering the era we are about to enter.

My .co.uk addys didn't work so sent it to one of my .coms and here is the link for my two pence.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mekrob', 'B')ut if you watched the original (to which I was responding), then you'd agree with me that the producer was flat out lying and doing a disservice to us all.

I wouldn't say flat out lying. I can see your a half full not half empty kind of guy.
I go with the sentiment that if you started with a glass of water and drank half of t then its half empty and if you started with an empty glass and half filled it, anyways.
To say yourself that the world has hundreds of years left of oil borders on the dangerous. We don't have hundreds of years. At present consumption rates the amount of oil left in the World will last us 30 years. If the reports are true that the Arabs cooked their own books and put a rosy tint on their stocks and made it appear that they had more than they actually did then we have less than 30 years.

And when it starts taking one barrel of oil to dig up one barrel of oil, the game truely is up. That point maybe reached when there is 500gb still left in the ground, but there will be no point digging it up as you will just be burning oil to dig up oil to burn digging up oil.

Gazzatron, when I say "hundreds of years left", I would have thought you'd know that what I said is for the most part true, if you are indeed on this site which I think you are. We all know that oil consumption doesn't just keep going and going until everything is used up. It will peak and then decline. Oil production has lasted about 150 years. After peak, we'll have about 150 years left (but with less...something the spinners won't tell you). Take into account higher depletion rates and that damn EROEI and we're left with about 100 years or so. We'll still have an economy and technology to process and use oil, so the tar sands will still be in use and maybe even shale. These sources will allow at least another hundred, maybe 4 or 5 hundred years left in oil production.

Sorry, that really was just semantics.

And I'm about a middle of the road doomer, so I'm definately not a half full kinda guy. More like my-damned-politician-is-too-busy-being-corrupt-and-lazy-to-find-new-ways-to-fill-or-replace-the-diminishing-liquid-in-my-glass-and-the-people-of-the-world-aren't-helping-to-stop-the-madness-and-destruction-that-will-occur kinda guy (I guess most people don't get that upset about a damned glass of water, even though we need it to survive).

H1 Hummer to END PRODUCTION

Unread postby emersonbiggins » Fri 12 May 2006, 15:51:02

Well, the market has spoken.
The limited supply of these babies will make them worth $$$ when the highway system goes to pot. Like, right now. *tears*
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Say goodbye to the H1 Friday, May 12, 2006
Associated Press
DETROIT - The 2006 model year will be the last for the Hummer H1, the hulking, gas-guzzling status symbol that has attracted celebrities and off-road enthusiasts but has drawn the ire of environmentalists.
Hummer H1 General Motors Corp. announced plans Friday for the H1, which is the foundation for the automaker's Hummer brand. Based on the military's Humvee, the about 12,000 put on the road since 1992 defined the Hummer name.
“It's a reflection of where we're going with the Hummer brand,” Hummer general manager Martin Walsh said of the decision. “The Hummer DNA still resides in the Humvee. ... It will always be the core from where we come.”
GM expects the last H1s to be built next month.
Walsh said Hummer plans to focus on models with broader appeal instead of the niche-market H1. Since taking over the Hummer name in 2000, GM has introduced the still hefty H2 and a midsize H3 sport utility vehicle. (more at link - subscription req'd)

They only sold 12,000 of those ridiculous pieces of shit, huh? That's surprising. I would've thought there were a lot more.

I probably get a distorted perspective out here. I see them waddling through shopping mall parking lots all the time.

The H1 was in my eyes the only "real" Hummer. It was very expensive and rare, but was pretty close to the military version. It had a glued and riveted aluminum body and 2 ton payload capacity and was diesel. A local roofer had one and he used to carry an entire pallet of shingles with it on the muddiest of jobsites.
The newer varieties such as the H2 and H3 are much more common, but are little more than standard GM vehicles with Hummer body work.

While they have apparently ceased production on the H1, word has it that GM is still kicking around the idea of the H4.

Though, still very much a conventional vehicle, this new hummer is being positioned to compete against the Jeep Wrangler and other similar sized CUVs. No info on fuel use, but it's a no brainer that it would be at least 20mpg or better.

Lookey...
Image

At least each of HUmmer's sucessive offerings have gotten lighter as they go a long. At this rate, their H8 or H9 might actually be a useful, relevent vehicle that I might consider owning.

Hopefully the H2 is next. It's just a milk carton turned on its side – ugly as fuck. I hate those things, especially the motherfuckers that drive them. I hope gas hits 5 or 6 bucks a gallon because hopefully a whole lot of people will start thinking that sniping these pompous assholes would be fun.
