$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('diogenes', 'T')here will be no instant collapse. It is a fantasy. People who consider themselves well suited for a postcivilization existence hope for it, wish for it----perhaps it eases their fears. No, we will have no sudden reversion to the stone age. There are wars to get through first, glorious resource wars and wars of fading nationalism. Any man between fifteen and fifty will be useful, then. Worry about the rest afterwards.
I believe your right... an instant collapse is the most unlikely scenario, barring a meteor strike or its ilk. A long complex collapse is probably the most inevitable. As for being USELESS; everyone here is useless. You cannot possibly predict with accuracy what will happen to you in any given situation. Yes, you can prepare, but for what? The crisis may be foreseeable but the circumstances in how it will affect you will not be known until it happens. People prepare in order to gain some sense of control and reduce their fear of the unknown. That’s not to say that learning kung-fu won't make you a better fighter in a fight, but what if the other guy shows up with a gun? I think you get the point.
I've noticed lots of people on here are clapping their hands with glee that we are undergoing this change. It's the, I know something you don't, and I told you so, sense of power. That, and it's about time all those people I'm jealous of, hate or don't respect are finally going to get theirs. These are feelings that lurk below the surface in all of us. Because some things are revealed to you doesn’t mean that a clear path is also uncovered.
I would ask, what skills can you really know that will be useful. What measures of protection can you take that will guarantee the least amount of impact on your present way of life? If you’re planning on a life of Mayberry or even Little House on the Prairie existence, forget it. The real outcome cannot yet be imagined. You may or may not be a part of the future no matter how useful or useless you think you are. Rather trust to luck and cunning.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.
