10,000 Days

Been a long time since I've posted anything and I can't really say that I miss it. Picked up TOOL's new album, 10,000 Days. An ass-kicker like the rest of their stuff. Puts me in a good mood........unlike this PO stuff.

I'm going to see them in concert as many times as I can and I hope they use enough electricity in their shows to cause more rolling blackouts as well as another east coast grid to go down. Here are the lyrics for a song off of 10,000 Days. How appropriate.

Right In Two - TOOL

angels on the sideline
puzzled and amused
why did Father give these humans free will?
now they're all confused

don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around?
plenty in this holy garden, silly old monkeys
well there's one you're bound to divide it
right in two

angels on the sideline
baffled and confused
father blessed them all with reason
and this is what they choose
monkey killing monkey killing monkey
over pieces of the ground

silly monkeys given thumbs
they forge a blade
and then theres one bound to divide it
right in two
right in two

monkey killing monkey killing monkey
over pieces of the ground
silly monkeys give them thumbs
they make a club
and beat their brother down
how they survive so misguided is a mystery
repugnant, dismal creature who would squander
the ability to live, to die, and have a conscience

brothers sleep inside here

cut it all right in two
cut it all right in two
cut it all right in two
cut it all right in two

fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky
fight over life, over blood, over air
fight over love, over sun, over another
fight each other, over

angels on the sideline again
been so long with patience and reason
angels on the sideline again
wondering when this tug of war will end

cut it all right in two
cut it all right in two
cut it all right in two
right in two
right in two

I am in awe over the greatness of this album. They are by far the most creative band I've ever heard.

Tool are a great band and 10,000 Days is an excellent album. I recently spent a couple of hours reading all about Maynard's vineyard, smacking my lips over his booze and his forthcoming beats. I was almost going to reply with an `essential' list of Tool tracks but it would be easier just to say everything but the odd interlude track is quality. If I could only have two bands to take with me into the dieoff it would be a big compilation of Tool music and Radiohead's The Bends. Now there's an idea, if you were a Horseman of the Apocalypse what soundtrack would you be listening to as you stood on a mountainside, a city burning at your feet, the sun sinking over your shoulder?

I know I'd rather be listening to Killswitch Engage when I ride into battle. I still like listening to Abba's Dancing Queen but I'll be fucked if I'll mow down ravening hordes while that plays in the background.

Yeah I was very happy the album finally dropped. Couple of disappointing tracks for me, but that happened in the past, and all of them eventually grew on me.

I think Aenima might be more appopriate for PO. :)

I've said it before; Tool is not a band, they are Artistes whose medium happens to be music... 8)

Talk about some incredible compositions. 10,000 Days just gets better every time I listen. I like the stereoscopic artwork too...
