The reason why we have not meet an 'advanced' alien civilization is right obvious by now. THEY DON"T EXISTS.

Aliens might exists, but each world like earth never made it past the industrial age. Each alien 'world' was blind to what they were doing to the world and when the realization finally hit them, it was too late. Eventually all would-be-potential advanced civilizations (us humans too given another 1000 years) peaked during the industrial age (like we are now) and declined to a stone-age level of existence, or worse, become extinct.

Each world only had ONE shot and ONE shot only at sustainable intelligent life, and all of them failed. This is why there are no 'intelligent' aliens with Warp drives and holodecks, timetravel or replicators , etc

Here is why I think it is so. Every world (not only earth but all potential alien worlds) that develop life MUST first start by process of photosynthesis. Basically first plant life, then animal life, first life in ocean, and then move on earth. First primitive life, then complexed life, (duh) etc etc..

So it is very likely other planets that have life will eventually have 'oil'/'petroluem'. However life has a way of using up as much and as soon as possible (like bacteria in a petri dish) (darwinism: those that don't do so are overtaken by those that do) and therefore when there is too much of energy deposit (oil) on a planet, (a certain time period has passed) naturally intelligent life will develope. (NOTE: if only intelligent life WAITED a few more billion years to develop we could have MUCH more oil resources, enough to DEVELOP advanced TECHNOLOGY to get us OUT of this PROBLEM) Yet that is NOT the way life works, whenever there is just barely enough energy (oil) life will make use of this situation and intelligent speices will appear to make use of this energy deposit (almost like the earth is 'sentient' it knows it has energy and then intellignet monkeys appear)

Thus I believe that for ALL alien species, they ALL develop at a early stage in a time when there will NOT be enough oil to bring them through/past peak oil.

Thus they will ALL suffer the same fate we do...

They will all realize it, but realize it too late!

On the UPWARD climb the habits and beliefs we picked up HELPED US, on the downard fall it is these same habits and beliefs that will DAMN US! The same thing that made us great will make us FALL! Isn't this something....!!!!

This is why there are no advanced aliens, they never made it and neither will we.

Like for example, the cooperation the 'group'/'tribe' thinking that suited us SO WELL on the way UP, will now kill us off on the way down!

I now the problem, everyone here knows the problem, but the real problem is the 99% of the rest of the friggin world who doesn't know and don't care! Simply said, there is NOTHING we can do to help even save the world a 'little' bit, becuase EVERYTHING we will do is immediately undermined by the vast majority.

I think governments realized PO a LONG Time ago, like back during the Civil War the NSA of the time probably already found oil and extrapolate a future where we have cars/airplanes etc. The Governments know about it, but there is NOTHING they can do about it. They know that the PEOPLE always hold the real power, if they don't do what the people wnat, the people will revolt and the government will be overthrown for another govermnent that WILL do what the people want!!!

It is IN OUR GENES! ANd our GENES developed during a time when the energy was ALWAYS UPWARDS AND MORE AND CHEAPER, thus we are genetically not fit to survive in a world that is FOREVER DOWNWARD in energy and resources.

We are biologically screwed!!!!!

Advanced intelligent life was a experiment in nature that utterly FAILED!!!!! Life is a joke...

Right, the fact that they could be in a different galaxy, and that it would take of the order of billions of years to get here mean anything?

Who knows if there are other intelegent lifeforms around, fact is, they probably far too far away to find us.

And dont give me any warp engine stuff. As far as we know, we cant break the speed of light. Maybe, we really cant at all. That would explain why noone has come knocking at our door.

That COULD work, except that would mean that those aliens had to have successfully themselves advanced to such an age. Here in is the paradox, they could not do so without the help of OTHER advanced aliens!!!

Therefore, I conclude: THERE ARE NO ADVANCED ALIENS IN THIS UNIVERSE.

We all screw ourselves up and hope some "GOD' or high power will come to save us, religion helped man on the way UP however it will be our achellies heel on the way DOWN.

We have already consume most of the easy to get resources.
We do NOT have the TIME, ENERGY, NOR TECHNO KNOW HOW to advanced to the NEXT age to solve our current problem. We are simply to far away, physically and literally speaking.

When we go down there will be no coming back up, we will have used all the resources already!

We are stuck, we can't go back to the past, and we don't have enough to jump to the future, we are stuck in a bad position and time is quickly running out. we have NO OPTIONS LEFT.

I always figured the reason why we haven't met aliens yet is because we haven't got anything that they want to buy and they haven't got anything we can afford.

Cause if they did have something that we needed, you can bet Cheney would be beating a path to their door mumbling something about democracy and telling them they are either with us or terrorists. The Chinese would come around a few days later asking for the same stuff we were looking for but would be content to look the other way when learning about their long history of inter-planetary crackdowns on freedom loving lifeforms.
