Relocation is a bear no matter the age. I have done it at your age, in my mid 20s and again with a family just past 30. It doesn't get easier the older you get. You have more stuff and probably more family members. If you are inclined to move, do it now as it is still cheap and easy. Do your research.

Even better yet, if you can scrape together some dough, do a road trip around the country. I'd suggest starting in New England, then Mid atlantic and go over to the upper midwest. If you have the time and inclination keep heading west, skip the plains (it's tough to get yourself established there if you arent from there). Take a look at tHe western part of Montana and Idaho before ending in The pacific NW. Focus on the smaller cities and towns and keep your eye out at for the dominant agricultural operations of the area. Pay attention to transportation infrastructure (roads and rails) and support systems like water and power if you are so inclined. It will give you an idea how the area will fare in a lower energy future. If you have the time, slow you travels down, take odd jobs here and there. This will give you an idea how life is like outside of your area and since you have no connections, this is a super time to start. If you can, grab yourself a wireless ready laptop, signup for a blogger or typepad account and document your travels as a modern-day vagabond. Had I been 21 and PO aware, I would have more than likely done so. I am 31 and have a family so my travels must be made vicariously through others.

Good luck!

Balthazar, Welcome to Panasthesia. Give yourself a pat on the back for not becoming a jibbering nut case, as some people do when the anesthetic of consensus reality wears off.

Have you always been introverted?
