Oh no, we struck oil!

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

Oh no, we struck oil!

I read a magazine article a while back that suggested that there may be moderately good oil sources in New Zealand and that the New Zealand government should make it easier for oil companies to search for, and run oil wells in New Zealand. I thought, "oh no, we're currently off everyone's radar because we're too far away and unimportant for other countries to worry too much about, if we found oil we'd get all kinds of interferance". Would it be a bad thing in the long run if oil was found in New Zealand?

Oh yeah, all that extra taxation income, jobs and local energy inputs would be such a disaster?

Is it really so hard to be optimistic these days?
