$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('LX1', 'i')n the absolute worst case scenario in which oil runs out and the us does nothing before or when that happens like you guys predict(extremely unlikely to happen) then yes, the us will most likely fall the hardest.

Extremely unlikely? Tell me:

1) What is the US doing now?
2) How many years before peak do you think it's wise to do something?
3) How many years before peak is now?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('LX1', 'i') highly doubt it's gonna be as bad as you guys think...also i belive the US will do whatever it takes to maintain their way of life....once PO awarness becomes more mainstream, lots of conservation will happen which will buy us more time, lot's of steps taken tword alternative energy...the US has alot of money and resources to do this. whoever said something about the US's debt...that is not a problem whatsoever ATM. we are not just going to sit back and wait for oil to run out, that's nonsense.

This type of post has been taken apart multiple times on this forum alone, to which the only reply has ever been, "Err, they'll think of something." As evident above.

I belive the US will do whatever it takes to maintain their way of life.

As do I, which is why I said above that they are by far the most dangerous nation. Take a peek at current affairs for news on the US maintaining it's way of life (it doesn't involve windmills)

Do some reading and think about Dolys' questions.

i know it may sound ignorant...but we will more than likely 'think of something'......im not saying that everything is going to stay the same and our way/quality of life is going to remain undisturbed... once oil prices go through the roof, there will be economic problems, but serious conservation of oil will happen, which will slow the oil crisis...and alternative energy will be high priority, and belive it or not the US has alot of money to develop an alternative energy infrastructure, it may start a little too late to avoid serious problems..but eventually, we will pull through, and the rest of the world, most likey, will pull through as well.

Don't forget that money might not matter at all... World economy and global trading might collapse during first serious oil crisis.
In such case, country will likely by limited to what it can do with domestic production instead what it can buy on international market. Also diplomacy will matter more, because some resources and technologies will have to be bartered with other countries (NG for US for example) in exchange for some real products or resources (not just money).

During the days of eastern bloc, resources between warsaw pact countries were traded in barter, not in money, because money(in eastern bloc) were in large part "virtual" and decoupled from value of many products and resources.
Same stuff will happen post peak imo..

Diplomacy and good alies will become more important post peak.
I only hope that EU will be able to function as one country at least in economic sense even post peak.
