Peak Oil gets free Publicity on MSNBC’s Countdown

Unread postby dbarberic » Wed 26 Apr 2006, 10:40:35

Last night on MSNBC’s news show Countdown with Keith Olbermann, there was a segment on Viral Videos (aka short video clips passed around the internet, mostly made by armatures).

The segment explained that advertisers are beginning to use the feature to advertise goods, but it was brought up that sometimes you will get results that you do not want. The news show then showed The Apprentice make your own Tahoe Television Ad. Recall that a few weeks ago, there was a thread posted here titled “FUN consumer activism - Chevy Tahoe SUV ad comp, have a go!”
http://www.peakoil.com/fortopic18689.html

The show then showed an undesired Tahoe ad that was created on the site, the text went like this:
“The world is running out of oil.”
“Peak Oil is near.”
“Why don’t you just walk.”

My jaw dropped. There is was for the whole world to see. A mockery of a Chevy Tahoe ad directly telling everyone about Peak Oil. Ha… Ha… Ha….

I tried to find the ad they showed or a copy of the show, but could not. I wonder if this specific ad was handy-work of someone from our forum.

Well, there are about 5000 registered members at PO.com, and it doesn't seem likely that there are too many more sane members of our society, so it most likely came from someone that is either a member or a pretty frequent guest of this site.

I saw it too. It was great. It was the only video they showed of GM's. GM last week was boasting what a success their Viral Video PR stunt was even though the only coverage I've seen about it has been the negative videos people have made. I love it. It's the first time that I have witnessed mainstream media cover Peak Oil. Even if it wasn't intentional.

PS. I love Count Down. Keith Oberman hates Bill O'Reilly but he is so witty about it.

You now what's really scary, is that the best reporting on television is done by John Stewart (a comedian), Keith Olbermann (a former sports reporter), and Bill Mahr (another comedian). Doesn't say much for the lame journalism majors in the MSM.

Chevy Tahoe Peak Oil ad

This was discussed in another thread a little while back in thread http://www.peakoil.com/fortopic18779.html; there were actually a bunch of these done.
Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive...
