Air Conditioning - Only for the Rich?

Unread postby SolarDave » Mon 24 Apr 2006, 21:13:58

Hey Californians!

Did you see what PGE slipped in to our rates for heavy users?

Compare the values in cell J3 on these two spreadsheets, representing our rates last year and our rates this year:

Last Year

This Year

Wow! There are going to be some pretty unhappy Tier 5 users this year.

I'm going to convert the air conditioner condenser to lawn art.

I think this is really important. The people who are overconsuming energy because their house has no insulation and they have no financial incentive to fix it, really need one.

Yeah, some of the flat-earth board wags have been questioning where the tangible evidence of peak oil was. If there were tiered prices for oil the way there are for natural gas and electricity (come to think of it, are there any???) I think we would be seeing the effectes strongly there.

I'd say this is tangible evidence of a rapidly approaching peak in North American natural gas, for sure!

Only for the rich?

No, I'd say only for the weak...

Old Darwin will take care of the problem.

Learn about geothermal, and get a ground source heat pump installed immediately. The cost is generally about 10% the value of your home (probably less for inflated house prices due to housing bubble). The average time to recoup the expenses is only 3-5 years. Afterwards, there is little repair and maintanence required, thus is pracitcally free after 3-5 years. Keep in mind, it is even cheaper if you would only use it to keep temperatures away from the extremes, and then not have as much power to get temps at that magical 68 degree status. Most systems have 50+ year warranties as well.

Not for the rich. Just for the smart and prepared.
