Are you in a Peak Oil group ?

What entails a meeting ? Who comes ? Real interest ?
What happens in your group ?

Or is it just better to stay online for now ?

I was part of a peak oil Meetup here in the Northeast for awhile. Good group of people.

But the same ten people showed up for the meetings every month.

It's a 40-mile round-trip for me.

What's the point?

That is what I would like to avoid....40 miles rt to a meeting .
I would host one but I have no LR furniture ...and the kitchen is galley.
Maybe at a Starbucks .(they are open late)
Actually I get more info online than through people..altho' I have to admit every single person in my day to day dealings that I broached the subject of "peak oil " with did not have a single clue to what I was talking about. ..and I bring the subject up carefully saying such things as " Yes, gas and heating oil is up...but that is just the beginning. We should be on alternatives already ". If I like them I tell them to google "peak oil ".

Out of my awareness of peak oil, I realized I need a new crowd. Preferably a "tribe" that may formulate plans and info. I am horrified at conspicuous consumption .(Actually that came after witnessing 9/11 here. Things do not matter .Hence no LR ..lol)

People do not seem to care .The woman across the hall emails me.aa the time altho' my door is 6 ft away..and I email her back The woman next to me may leave a note , I may leave a note back. The guy from downstairs who waits on the same platform as me does not say anything and neither do I. We are all in our little cocoons .
I would help if the sh*t hit the fan..

When I visited people outside of Santa Fe a month ago I asked them questions such as...can you drill for water ? How long have you had this drought ? What can you plant here ? How far to town ?
Do you still have your guns ? Do the dogs bark when strangers come ? Does your fireplace work ?Are you paying off your mortgage ?( I researched their property on zillow.com and they have lost $55,000.00 of their value in a year...but I am not going to be the one to break the news)But they seem to think that it will not happen because they are in their prime and making lots of money and they work freelance right now and have to decide about which job to take.Life is wonderful . But what happens when the jobs are not there ? This is a couple who said to drill for water was too expensive but took a 4 day vacation to Belize that cost $4,000.00.

May I should just worry about myself and stop with trying to educate people about the coming scarcity of oil .Can self centeredness be a good thing ?

You might want to attend a Meetup, then, to find like-minded people in your area. There's nothing wrong with self-interest, but it sure helps to have people to talk to.

I'm lucky in that my closest friends and associates are informed and more or less prepared (or resigned to change).

Anyone who's in the Boston, Ma area and looking for a Peak Oil Meetup might be interested in the Boston Area Alternative Energy Supporters Meetup instead (since the local Peak Oil Meetup isn't active)
