I work at a tobacco store as a cashier. I am not an economist by any stretch of the immagination. Ive heard all of these things about the fed dumping liquidity into the markets on the order of billions. Just the other day I heard north korea accuse the us of counterfieting its own bills and blaming it on north korea. As I hear about these things, I see more and more of these tri-color ten dollar bills and less of the greenbacks. Is the phasing in of tri-color currency (two tier monetary system anyone?) as a program more directly related to helicopter ben's runaway inflation than being a system to prevent counterfiting?

Could you elaborate please what exactely you mean with tri-color bills? I did receive a $10 bill yesterday with a font printed all over but did not pay much attention to it, since when it comes to the larger picture paper money has hardly any meaning. It certainly was not counterfeit (when travelling in Vietnam about 10 years ago I met some guys that came over from Cambodia with counterfeit Dollars that were as obvious as can be, the paper was extemely ordinary and the colors were so washed out that one hardly could decifer if I was to be a 10 or a 100 Dollar bill).

That North Korea is not new to the money printing business is not a secret, on another trip back in the day (1992 or so) I visited Liberia (West Africa) and as the coincident wanted it we just arrived at a time where the government decided to introduce paper money. So the largest unit (the 5 Liberian Dollar coin) had then to be exchanged within 2 weeks to 5 Liberian paper Dollars and you saw people dragging sacks full of their savings to the banks, since the coins lost all value after that short term notice. We were headed towards Ivory Coast and every 30-40 miles there was a military road block where bribing the soldiers was the only way to open those gates. The exchange rule for foreigners was of course one US for one Liberian so we handed out the new 5 Dollar bills right and left (beside the value they also were quite a novelty to the machine gun guys greeting us from stop to stop). Anyway, long story short these Dollars were officially and legally printed in North Korea.

There will no counterfeit Dollars helicoptered into the US from within the US if this is what you mean, it is rather likely that under extreme circumstances the Dollar will be renamed to something like 'Liberty Dollar' or 'Freedom Dollar' and the old Greenback will be only transferrable for US citicens and in overseeable amounts. This would prevent a run on the Dollar in the first place since the collapse would be so fast and unexpected that it would essentially go unnoticed (at least for a few days).

West Virginia!! What threw me off was that the letters were not capitalized... The link indeed is exactely picturing what I found in my walet yesterday when travelling though Orange County, CA. This measure is just cosmetic, nothing noteworthy I would say considering that only a fraction of one percent of the money moved on this planet earth are actual linked to the exchange of goods (meaning that paper money would make a fraction of the fraction of the fraction of one percent).

You'll like it, it helps avoid handing over the wrong bill, something I am always worried about when in the states. Ok, yes... I could read the numbers on the bill, but you can just tell at a glance and be sure what the bill is.

I've seen the new colorful $10 bill.

On the back side there is an oval, to the left, that is entirely blank.

I heard that this blank oval is intended to provide space for you to draw a quick sketch of your favorite President.

Of course my theory is that in the near future the US government will declare that North Korea has flooded the world outside of the US with counterfeit 20 Dollar notes and therefore the Dollar will need to be replaced with the 'Freedom Dollar' or even better the 'Patriot Dollar'. Fox news will be happy to spead the word and since all bonds were issued in the old 'now dilluted' Dollar they are nil and non existent any longer. Debt problem solved. If the Chinese want their money back they have to come and get it...

I am just getting as sarcastic and obnoxious as the current administration, they set the tone.
