Who wants to join the "Zero Growth" party?

Unread postby Falconoffury » Tue 04 Apr 2006, 09:38:34

There is a general lack of support throughout politics and society as a whole for a zero growth economy. A good percentage of posters to this site believe that the only way for mankind to navigate the coming peak oil storm is through an end to population growth, and a zero growth economy to accomodate the population.

How about we start a zero growth organization or party from this website? Would anyone join?

We would need some undisputable higher authority to enforce the zero population growth rule.

I suggest a overarching universal worldwide goddess whose minions would be present at all births (for pretend ceremonial purposes) and secretly make women infertile after two births each. She would also be able to enforce equal ops. for women. Of course her minions would also be healers/police officers that could offer support/healing to victims of unfortunate accidents and most importantly parasitic diseases/infections and dish out punishments to criminals. Who sets the laws is anyones guess.

Also if the population was set well below the sustainable level, everyone could live as hunter/foragers with relative ease (the climate would be regulated to tropical everywhere). The minions would supply essentials materials and perform industrial production (of cloth, toothpaste etc.) as required as being semi-divine they would not need to sleep.

Thats my suggestion anyway...

Surely joining a party would imply growth of the party? Unless somebody else has to leave when you join.
