For those that are interested, I have an idea for a community in southern Oregon. What I was thinking about is buying a decent farm/ranch and having it split up so that each family has their own piece of property. I thought up this particular idea because, while I have a bunch of money in savings, it's not enough (and probably never will be enough) to purchase and outfit the kind of property that I would really like to have. On the other hand, 4 or 5 families all pitching in 100k or so could buy quite a nice property, even at today's inflated prices - and possibly an amazing property should the real estate crash proceed more briskly
With a bunch of people with the same interests and values all within shouting distance of each other, sharing ideas, tools, whatever - I think this has the potential to be a good situation should any serious problems arise as a result of PO or some other calamity coming down the pipe.
