The Road to Energy Independence

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')onservation and alternative fuels are worthwhile ways to lessen U.S. dependence on foreign oil, but the immediate answer is efficiency.
We have reached one of those rare moments of broad societal accord. We all agree the U.S. has become overly dependent on fossil fuels, particularly foreign oil. We all want to do something substantive to eliminate the dependency.

The Road to Energy Independence ...........

.....doesn't go through the White House.

.....is congested with McMansion owners in their SUVs.

.....hasn't been built yet.

.....is full of potholes.

.....is a toll road.

.....leads you to the nearest refinery.

How about more ways to complete this sentence?

...I came to the junction of two roads in the yellow wood. I took the less travelled, and in the end it has made all the difference.

Here's what we have done on the road to energy independence:

The road to Energy Independence...

...requires strong political will.
Peak oil is not an energy crisis. It is a liquid fuel crisis.

The road to energy independance will more resemble the batan death march than the highway to heaven.

The fact that TPTB and society choose to use the word "road" in the sound byte for the solution to energy independance is disturbingly ironic. It just shows how imbeded car culture is into our collective psyche. It is the whole idea of roads and conspicious travel that has brought us to such a crisis. We cannot even begin to think in terms that are NOT related to roads, travel, and cars. This shows how deeply rooted the problem is. We don't even have words to discribe it.

If I were to choose a word it would be crusade.

The crusade for energy independance will require much sacrifice.
The crusade for energy independance begins with man in mirror.

An even better word might be Jihad.

The Jihad for energy independance is my personal resposibility.
Give me energy independance or give me death.

The road to energy independence may be rocky and steep, but the view from the top is very nice. Now's the time to start up it. Before everybody else becomes aware and it gets crowded.
