I have a thought I would like to discuss. This is the major reason why I "know" that peak oil is just a side issue.

Much of the discussion on this board seems to revolve around technolegy, alternative resources, solar, wind power, how much cash it takes to become self sufficient etc. But it seems to me that this is missing the forest for the trees-or something like that.

I have a friend whose neighbor learned how to modify the carbureator on his lawn mower and was able to increase his fuel consumption efficiency to the point that he was able to mow his lawn all summer on less than a tank of fuel.

My wife's great grandfather developed an engine years ago that ran on a slurry made from ragweed.

One of the neighbor's near where we used to live had a small manufacturing shop at his home. No power lines went into the building. None of his employees were permitted in his "power room". He would not discuss it at all. Allegedly certain goberment had visited him and as long as he kept his mouth shut they wouldn't hassle him.

How many stories have we all heard about this inventor who was bought out? The next guy all of a sudden commits suicide. Ad nauseum.

How does this relate to Peak Oil. Very simple. THERE WILL BE NO SALVATION-at least not from technowlegy.

Think about it. The U.S. goberment signed the patriot act WITHOUT even reading it. Hello? Anybody see a problem with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\

It is called order out of chaos. Allow chaos real or contrived, then while the masses plead for help the goberment delivers this in the form of less freedom and more control.

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absoluty.

The whole world is headed for disaster. Peak oil, peak natural gas, peak water supply (do a google search on water in relation to the Yellow River in China or Las Vegas etc).

Will goberments do anything about this. For the most part, not substantially. Why, because of those in the higher positions of power-that not being every congressman or senator-desire more power. And that power is most easily gotten through bringing order our of chaos.

Understand this and you will understand why THERE WILL BE NO SALVATION.

We are headed for a cliff without the politics. But when combined with the politics of greedy men and women we are headed for a very high cliff and the landing will be anything but soft and pillowy.
