Brutal Canadians Collectively Guilty

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Fri 24 Mar 2006, 18:39:22

325,000 harp seal pups will be brutally killed by malevolent Canadians starting this Saturday, March 25. That binary guilt switch in Canadian subconscious minds should be flashing guilty regardless of whether any particular Canadian swings the club or not. A travesty.

It's beyond disgusting to kill animals for fur. It taints our national reputation and there is just a little blood on all of our hands.

With all this brutal overcrowding we keep talking about, this sounds like the die off that we all need. Maybe this is the best solution for mass die offs. At any rate the suffering of some poor african kid isn't my problem.

If Canadians are collectively guilty of brutality for the Newfies' futile mass-cull of seal pups,

what are Americans collectively guilty of for their armed forces' slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi men women & children ?

And just how many protested the third anniversary of that equally futile barbarity ?

Just asking . . .

I watched the last waltz last night and blonde on blonde is good dylan. Im not sure its his best I have to digest it all. sad eyed lady of the lowlands is interesting.
With your mercury mouth in the missionary times,
And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes,
And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes,
Oh, who among them do they think could bury you?
With your pockets well protected at last,
And your streetcar visions which you place on the grass,
And your flesh like silk, and your face like glass,
Who among them do they think could carry you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace,
And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace,
And your basement clothes and your hollow face,
Who among them can think he could outguess you?
With your silhouette when the sunlight dims
Into your eyes where the moonlight swims,
And your match-book songs and your gypsy hymns,
Who among them would try to impress you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

The kings of Tyrus with their convict list
Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss,
And you wouldn't know it would happen like this,
But who among them really wants just to kiss you?
With your childhood flames on your midnight rug,
And your Spanish manners and your mother's drugs,
And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs,
Who among them do you think could resist you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

Oh, the farmers and the businessmen, they all did decide
To show you the dead angels that they used to hide.
But why did they pick you to sympathize with their side?
Oh, how could they ever mistake you?
They wished you'd accepted the blame for the farm,
But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm,
And with the child of a hoodlum wrapped up in your arms,
How could they ever, ever persuade you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row,
And your magazine-husband who one day just had to go,
And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show,
Who among them do you think would employ you?
Now you stand with your thief, you're on his parole
With your holy medallion which your fingertips fold,
And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul,
Oh, who among them do you think could destroy you
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

well in defense of my newfie compatriots (even though I am not a fan of killing animals of any sort)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')t's beyond disgusting to kill animals for fur.

As opposed to killing them so you can eat them? Not sure what the difference is....at the end of it all they are dead either way and if you've ever seen how they do in cattle it isn't pleasant either.

the thing that bothers me about all of this is the only reason whatsoever anyone is interested in this is because baby seals are cute (and occassionally you get to see a photo of Brigit Bardot)...no doubt about it....almost as endearing as those posters of the kittens with big eyes. If this was the annual baby Norway rat cull I doubt anyone would care, when in fact an overpopulation of either species is equally bad.

Collective guilt?

Seals?

WTF?

Listen, I dont like thinking about clubbing baby seals, nor would I have the mindset to do it for a job. However your statement is ridiculous and seriously undermines your credibility about everything else you say. You show yourself to be a hysteric with no sense of proportion.

Killing 325,000 seals for clothing is no different from killing millions of cows and pigs and chickens for eating.

The chickens are only about 6 weeks old when they are starved for three days before shipping. they are shipped on gigantic flatbeds and unloaded at the plant. They are picked up by the feet and hung on metal thingamajigs attached to the line. Upside down, they are lowered into electricified water which shocks them into pronation (or whatever the term is). then the line pulls them out of the water and their heads are cut off with super buzzsaws, and they bleed out. Sometimes the electrified water and the buzzsaws don't work, so there are a couple of little old ladies whose jobs it is to machete off the heads of any birds who make it to that point.

This happened 90 thousand times per shift, 180 thousand times per day at the plant I worked at.

But hey, chickens aren't that cute.

And this on a board that routinely debates the best way to kill off several BILLION fellow humans, with the empathy of 'who gives a shit about the kid dying in africa.'

So yeah, I feel your tenderness.

mgibbons19,

I don't think I've participated much if at all in the 'killing human's' debates because resource depletion will handle that all by itself in it's own way. But I do sometimes participate in the 'killing animal's' discussions because, besides being unkind, quitting killing animals is one way to reduce resource consumption.

Fair enough. I shouldn't paint with too broad a brush. PO is a pretty broad assortment of characters.

No problem mgibbons, we all sometimes generalize and it's just another one of those little things to watch out for. Much like ending sentences in prepositions. :o

The suffering of 325,000 seals is certainly horrifying, but it's nothing compared to the pointless and needless killing humans do for [s]entertainment[/s] food.

Hmmm, any factory that farms anything with a face and a mother is worse than the seal hunt. They are usually shot. Worse yet is the market for seal skin coats. Think about your next hamburger or ham sandwich, those animals can smell death before they have even been unloaded from the truck, think hormone growth supplements and who knows what. Besides, a seal hunt has been going on since people lived in seal country. Want someone to blame? Blame 6 billion people all wanting shit, seal would be farmed if they could do it - would it be any better?

I heard sir McCartney had to get his photo op so bad with a baby seal, they landed on an thin ice flow they shouldn't have and others held the mother at bay while it distressed over its pup - It's all a retarded show for retarded celebrities to sell their celebrity skin to a cause they know nothing about.
