$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')o you really want to know? Who will tell you? Who will you listen to?
I'll listen to a peak oil aware certified financial planner. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many of them. Though one did tell me to buy TIPs.
I think you're wrong about people not listening. A lot of people are listening. Some may agree with you, some may not. There are some fundamental uncertainties here, that even the experts disagree about. For example, are we likely to face deflation, like the Great Depression, only worse? Or hyperinflation, like Argentina? A lot of well-educated economists and financial experts disagree.
Similarly, is it smart to buy real estate now? If so, where? Climate change is happening so fast that a fertile farm this year could be dry as a desert next. Or underwater. Some think salvation is a farm in the country, others an apartment in the city.
Gold? Cash? Alternate energy? Some people are recommending pennies, because they'll be valuable for their zinc content.
For the rest, I think I'm already doing pretty much all I can. I live two miles from work, and walk except when the weather is really bad. I have a car, but could do without it if I had to. I'm a member of my local CSA (which is also in walking distance).
