Green Gas: Movie idea

Postby PenultimateManStanding » Sun 05 Mar 2006, 12:13:16

summary: post peak apocalypse, gas scarce. new corporation in Denver, CO has brought to the market a new supply of fuels, they are extraordinarily well financed and they are buying up gas stations everywhere to sell their bioengineered gas, diesel, or NG emulates; intrepid reporter for The Village Voice goes undercover in Colorado where he discovers that the new corporation, GGF (Green Gas Fuels) is depolymerizing people under the Denver Airport and making them into fuel.

atmosphere: a level of ultra-patriotic fever has been the public response to the crisis, there are huge posters of Lincoln and Washington everywhere, dissent is a redflag and mass arrests are occurring, the clamp-down is total.

plot twist: it turns out the GGF is a front for The Illuminati who are mobilizing the US population after a coup d'etat. New weaponry is unveilled which makes US soldiers invincible, reverse engineered at Area 51 and the plan is to reduce the global population to 950 million "well behaved" people controlled from Denver, the New World Capital. The plans are known as ORS (Operation Restore System).

What do you mean? it's a killer idea! I was thinking Nicholas Cage could be the reporter. Maybe have another plot twist: Cage isn't really a reporter, he's an agent for a shadow government entity representing some old hard-line American wealthy east coast families attempting a counter-coup.

Seems like V for Vendetta (haven't seen though, just from comms).

And you mistook me. I was knocking Denver as being the Capital. That's why I said it's far fetched but failed to mention anything else.

have a scene where Cage is strapped into a chair in a scyscraper overlooking Denver with the beautiful Rocky Mountains in the background. The head guy of The Illuminati is interrogating him and telling why the human race needs to be culled, very thought-provoking case made why what they are doing is The Just Answer to our problems. Cage is having doubts as he is hypnotized by the Illuminati guy with the Rocky Mountains behind him. another plot twist: the Coors corporation is heavily involved.

Edward Herrmann would be perfect for the Illuminati Interrogator. btw, any resemblance to any real or semi-real persons who may or may not be members of this forum is purely coincidental.

Sorry PMS-

Nicholas Cage is already in the Illuminati's pocket. He did National Treasure which was a puff piece for the Masons.

Maybe you could go in a different like direction with this project by bringing Andy Sidaris on board? You know the One of the Great minds of Cinema. Andy's got the formula for straight to DVD and he's so low budget you wouldn't have to mess with the unions.

How about "Half a Tank To Houston".

You think I need to sex it up? I was actually thinking of a sort of post-post-modernism approach: the references to other movies such as The Matrix and Soylent Green is supposed to be obvious but not done for laughs. "Meta Irony" as schwein would put it. I don't think the "babes and bullets" angle would serve a project like this.

Maybe I should explain, PM, more about this post-post-modern idea. The movie would have a gimmick, but the actors and situations would be played straight and serious. The gimmick is the Simpsons parody thing. What would make it work is if the action gets really bad a-la-TEOTWAWKI. You see, scare the shit out of the audience while playing a game of ripping off scenes from other movies. They won't "get-it" unless they realize their world is about to implode. Should make for good after-viewing conversation, don't you think? Show para-military gangs terrorizing civilians, summary executions, turf wars, famine, pestilence, common random murder, throw in a parody of 28 Days Later.

There ya go. Futuristic mod 70's sci-fi trash. Like uh, David Carridine in Deathsport. PMS, you should redo Deathsport with a peak oil theme. I's not Andy Sidaris, but Roger Corman is not to much of a stretch. When Peakoil comes we will all be fighting on Honda Goldwings(bullets). Top it off after the Big Dieoff, procreation will be the focus of humanity(Babes).

well sure great idea but it could be another one of the parodies. I was thinking cameos too: Clint Eastwood plays a paramilitary warlord that gets eaten by a mob of cannibals. Burt Reynolds as Acting-Commander-In-Chief. Maybe do some deliberate product endorsements; coke bottle in one scene pepsi in the next. Help me out here, it needs stuff.

OK,OK, let's ditch the skirts and get preachy. Preachy is very 70's sci-Fi. Like "No Blade Of Grass". Deals with a virus that kills all the wheat in the world. We could redo that only put a humor spin on it like the remake of The Stepford Wives did. Or remake "Like a Thief in the Night" only This time John Carpenter will do the remake. That will draw out the Christians and equal box office reciepts like The Passion. Thief in the Night is the one thing that freaks us christians more than Jack Chick.

Let's do the math. Apocolyptic-check
Big Brother-check
Box Office Potiential-Check
Preachy-check
Mod 70's sci-fi-check

I think were done, I'll fly out to Cali tommorow and set up a meet with Capenter's people.

I think we can really milk the Honda Goldwing placement. "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" Ohhhh the irony.

Granted. I don't want to "tie it all up" like in Pulp Fiction. Just absurdist slap-stick, but played with a straight face and having the underlying message that the good times, the fat times will soon be gone forever. Dark, think dark. A mean/ironic in-your-face you're all fucked storyline.

Original Dawn of the Dead, with a gas based theme?

It really brought me down when the remake didn't include the bikers.

Eastwood gets eaten by zombie cannibals, perfect! Let's put all the best biker stuff we can in. Motorcycle chase scenes, fast paced. Have them appear for no apparent reason and segway at random. Or put them in a story line about turf wars, doesn't matter. Maybe show some small groups making something good happen? nah. dark. just for this flick it's all doomer all the way. Motorcycles blow up. new warfare is knife fighting. lots of gory scenes with guts hanging out. out do BraveHeart.

Yes!Yes! Only no Eastwood, that would eat up the budget. We get Rutger Hauer instead. He may have been all high and mighty last year with Sin City, but he knows his place. Since we are going to have biker film, should we cut SB Cat in as a consultant? May seem like nepotism but she might get cross with us if we don't cut her in on the DVD royalties. Might consider Spec as well.

Since it's knife fighting I assume Stainless Steel becomes the new currency, thus PEAK STEEL could be the sequel. Peak Trilogy, Peak Box set, Peak Director's cut, etc.

Now just as Lucas and Speilberg did in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, we must discuss our cameos. I'm thinking I could be a stock villager who patches the protagonist up after he gets his bike thrashed. How about you? Wise village elder that is the moral compass of a world gone bad. The last link to the arts and humanities?

preachy? I don't vision this thing as preachy. more like beyond preachy, more like, 'you guys all screwed up and you're beyond help now'. OK, maybe it is a bit preachy like, 'repent and prepare to meet your maker'. The gimmicks and folderol hopefully are enough of a diversion that the preachiness isn't noticed. We could get the female thing in there by having Cage have a fiance and the Illuminati Interrogator or else the Eastwood paramilitary warlord has her throat cut and so Cage is inspired to start an army of retribution for the cruel senseless act. The starving masses that used to be the middle class will be taught to fight back, work in a little Spartacus parody.
