Hourglass Icon & This Website

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Tue 28 Feb 2006, 23:34:25

Anybody else notice their download hourglass icon very active with use of this website? Seems like I'm always having to hit that stop sign. Is there some kind exchange going on here besides what we read and post? I've heard of some spooky things like having cpu processing time auctioned in bundles to Eastern European syndicates that use zombie computers as surreptitious relays for spamming worldwide on the net. Whatever it is, there's the ever-present message "transferring data from peakoil.com ..." And what's that advertising revenue site I sometimes see flashing at the bottom of my screen? I'm wondering, too, if all this has any connection to the times this site has been hacked.

Am I the only one? I don't see this with any other website: only www.peakoil.com.

I have an Apple iMacG5. No pop-ups. No hourglass. And the only peculiar thing I notice is screen generation takes a very long time.

I'd say the webserver is probably just overloaded. These forums are quite popular and the subject of peak oil is gaining ever more traction. (As the inevitable comes)

BTW I have an AMD with XP, and I have no popups or hourglass either :P

well how about that. Installed the new version of firefox and the problem went away. Nice to know somebody in Romania isn't borrowing my cpu. It is still strange that it was only doing that for this website.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hese forums are quite popular

The mods can spew off the data but for about the last month, there has been about triple the normal level of activity on this website, according to the little counter in the right hand margin of some of the pages.

Today there are about 900 vistors. Up until about a month ago, average during the North American day time was about 300. During the storms, there were thousands.

Oh well I roam from town to town
I go through life without a care
'Til I'm as happy as a clown
With my two fists of iron and I'm going nowhere

I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world
Yeah I'm the wanderer yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around...

Oh yeah I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world
Yeah 'cause I'm a wanderer yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around...
'Cause I'm a wanderer yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around…

There is so much more to cats than their claws.

Wouldn't you love to bask in a triangle of sunlight on a cold afternoon, your eyes closed, the sun warming the fur on your back?

Or how about bathing your face in the steam pouring from a cup of hot tea while you listen to the sounds of classical music, the distant crackle from the wood burning stove and the tap tap tap of your caretaker's fingers dancing lightly over the keyboard?

Maybe this is what it means to live in the moment.

Breathe in, breathe out. Be the cat.
