President's Advanced Energy Initiative

I am utterly amazed by this language. Given that the fact that just a few weeks ago, the White House was back peddling on the whole "addicted to oil" State of the Union address. This is going to be an interesting week to say the least.

Which part is surprising to you?

He's not advocating for more foreign oil is he?

What am I overlooking here?

president might as well tell people
carry on driving your 10mpg SUV, technology will solve our problems

seems like the japanese have taken a totally different approach
conservation
and cutting back
trouble is, cutting back on gas guzzlers etc is going to kill the american economy. Ford and GM are in enough trouble already.

GM and Ford should be euthanized. They will just keep on producing cheaper and cheaper SUVs until they ultimately go bankrupt. The people who buy them don't realize they are just being sold three tonn lawn ornaments. Just end it now and stop subsidizing sprall.

It looks to me like the USA is just too stupid to cut back, not that it would destroy the economy. Cutbacks wouldn't destroy the economy, simply badly damage it. A little pain today would lessen the inevitable pain tomorrow. The USA is just too stupid to realize it.

Politicians are bullshit artists.

Bush bankrupt one company he ran. He has bankrupt the US government, maybe not by himself, but with his substantial contribution. Now he tells us we are on the verge of a technological breakthrough that will startle the US public and solve all our oil dependence. Confidence man supreme, he is.

Get out the KY jelly and prepare for more.

I saw more tax incentives for buying efficient vehicles, but none for choosing housing that's close to mass transit. Nothing surprising there.

Also, the fact that 'vehicle miles traveled' was actually mentioned without introducing a corresponding initiative to reduce those figures over time is insulting. VMT have roughly doubled since the 1980s.

I saw the article on drugde and when it displayed it had pics from "advanced ovionics" thin film solar cells slapped all over it like those were supposed to be the amazing breakthrough that was going to startle americans. What a joke. And in the article he says that "one day you'll be able to power your house with solar roofing" Puh-lease.... Thats been around for years now. Even in a convienent thin film panel shingle which has been out for like 9 years. Of course he didn't bother to mention that only 5% of Americans would be able to afford it. And of those 5% most don't bother because they will be able to afford highly priced oil as well...
