One More Chapter in the Peak Oil Chronicles

Will Frank make it to his hidey-hole?

THE BOMB

Looking out the window of his fourteenth floor apartment, Frank Scribner once again gazed apprehensively at the unruly mob below.

The mass of angry toughs – mostly young Latinos and blacks with an occasional white face showing on the edges – seemed to endlessly flow up and down the street and sidewalks, looking into smashed storefront windows in search of anything worth stealing. Many of them carried baseball bats or other weapons that were used to indiscriminately smash the windshields and tops of cars parked along the avenue. The sound of distant gunshots was almost as common now as honking horns had been a few days earlier, before it all happened.

He could hardly believe it had been just six days ago that the occasional honking horn was about the only sound that entered his comfortable world. Now all was noise and confusion, distant clouds of black smoke rising from a hundred small fires. The gunshots. The shouting, pushing, fighting, tiny figures far below. Dark smoke and occasional flames drifted out of a high-rise office building about a quarter mile away.

On that Monday morning when the beginning of the end arrived, Frank was pulled from a dream by his phone ringing at 4 a.m. He knocked his glasses to the floor fumbling for the receiver. “Shit, what the hell is it,â€

Love how he played the race card.

As though PO isn't scary enough. Dude has to be sure to mention the scary "LATINOS"

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')e wished he had a gun. But they were all at Jade Creek Ranch. Shit.

What a dummy! No "survivalist" worth his salt would ever leave all of his weapons at the bug out location!

A good example of what not to do.

Instead, I would have liked to seen him drop the home invaders with his AR-15. It would have been poetic justice, since ARs are banned in Kalifornia.

... with a full auto conversion. or make it an M-16, anyway. *and* throw in a grenade launcher, for good effect ...

But hey wait one. Parts of that scene sounds familiar. Ah, now I got it. One of the recent movies? Resident Evil : Apocalypse. Fits right into Jay Hanson's bio-weapon theory, too. Some kinda vampire-ish thingy about it as well - if you get bitten, you die but you're "re-animated" and become a zombie, and that soon happens to everyone else, and there goes the neighbourhood!

Or how about a full-blown C&C map, played out with bases and guard towers and rivers, and tanks and planes and guns, lots of guns ... click to attack

Back to the story above, anyway. So, when do the hordes start eating each other? 8O

Sounds like downtown Denver after a sporting event.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I was reading it till i got to the Bush section. You can take your political bullshit and shove it up your ass.

You people fail to realize Bush is the only prayer this country has. I dont know whether to feel sad or mad at your ignorance.

I'm just getting damned tired of the liberals blaming Bush for everything from the "War for oil" (Which is BS, its NOT for oil), the terrorist attack (hello, we had MORE under Klinton!), the economy (Thanks again Klinton!) and having sand in their mangina.
Whats worse is they think sKerry can save them! Because putting away our guns, sitting around holding hands and singing Kumbaya will make the terrorists go away and give us alternative energy.
And at the most basic level, voters of sKerry can rest assured their voting a Communist traitor into office. He tried to sell us out to the Communists in Veitnam, he'll sell us out to the terrorists today. While most of the asstards on this site dont care, I personally do not want to turn on the news and see MY children dead because some terrorists took over a school here in America and started shooting.

Hey, at least I got him reelected -- that oughta count for something. If I'd have tagged Kerry instead, events would have played out about the same. Maybe worse, who knows.

Trouble with Frank: He by no stretch was a survivalist. Frank was just a rich city guy who thought he could buy into the club by watching videos and reading books. In my opinion, if you're not out in the sticks now learning by doing, you could well end up like Frank.

Anyone with a 'them and us' thing going won't be able to use holding hands and singing to combat anything anyway.

I don't think all who consider themselves left-wing because it's meant to be about being nicer than being right-wing, are in fact aware that they are most likely being used by whatever stopped the tech. that was availible all along from winning-out over the sort of tech. that many depend on today, but they are.......being used that is.

Put it this way - if I was around and could do something about it, I wouldn't let the true plunderers of this Earth have control over the industries that they replaced the already-availible non-polluting and renewable tech with. I'd make sure even the drill-bits for the drilling were owned and catalouged.

I was brought up to believe that people are powerless and can't change the way things are, but I never believed it ; there's a very real religious madness around that is trying it's damndest to force an armageddon to happen, they have prevented implementation of all kinds of technologies that are clean and green and all that, so they can say people pollute and are evil and have to go, so they can keep up their faith that this entire reality is all evil - they stop anything that proves otherwise, if they can't stop it then they try and bury it so no-one hears about it.
