The US military is a volunteer force; period. So if you join you know full well that your card can and may be punched at any whim of your command and chief. So what if you’re killed; you signed up for it. It’s like crying foul when a coal miner, rodeo cowboy, racer car driver or any dangerous professional is killed. So am I sad about her son being killed, hell yeah I am. But more I am discussed about the pawn she’s become to the right/left, did you watch the debate? George had his token war dead family on display also.

A sentiment I too share.

Since when are the number of troops killed in Iraq or the phrase support our troops political slogans?

I like how the police spokes person phrased the part about "... a good faith effort", language meant to cover the officers ass after he finished violating a shit load of her constitutional rights.

Foolcell,

You know you actualy have a point. It IS a professional army.

However, the war was sold to the nation (and the world) on false pretext.

If you died for a lie, would Your Mother be mad, proud, or what?

IN CINDY's OWN WORDS:

"As most of you have probably heard, I was arrested before the State of the Union address last night.

I am speechless with fury at what happened and with grief over what we have lost in our country.

There have been lies from the police and distortions by the press (shocker). So this is what really happened:

....I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things ... I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later. I was immediately and roughly (I have the bruises and muscle spasms to prove it) hauled off and arrested for "unlawful conduct."

NO WARNING, NO NOTICE. NO CHANCE FOR ANY "PROTEST"

TRUTH eventualy comes out...slowly...in a wimper instead of ROAR of LIES.

Will you who have criticized Cindy admit you were WRONG?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('The_Virginian', 'Y')o Slop-ops007,

SHE WAS ARRESTED FOR HER SHIRT.

AND RELEASED because it was all HOGWASH, including your undertsanding of the "law" against political shirts.

ONLY public outcry allowed for the the correct (tho delayed) exercise of the law, not some "Recent years" policy:

"WASHINGTON - Capitol Police dropped a charge of unlawful conduct against anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday and apologized for ejecting her and a congressman's wife from
President Bush's State of the Union address for wearing T-shirts with war messages.

"The officers made a good faith, but mistaken effort to enforce an old unwritten interpretation of the prohibitions about demonstrating in the Capitol," Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer said in a statement late Wednesday."

When one asks one to do something, it implies that one has a choice. When one asks one to do something, one can politely reply, "no". When one is told, one can either comply or refuse.

Also, "unlawful conduct" sounds like a contradiction or even a paradox. It sounds as if she was behaving like she had broken a law, but since they couldn't find a specific law, they just used the behavior as the reason. I guess you don't even have to break a law in order to be arrested these days.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('tsakach', 'A')pparently, it was an accidental expression of free speech by Cindy Sheenan - she was warm after climbing several flights of stairs and unzipped her sweatshirt

Both Sheehan and Young staged the "event".

The State of the Union Address is one of the most important Washington high-society functions of the year. The wives of congressmen drool and fuss for months in advance over which designer they will wear.

Those women would no more wear a t-shirt to that event than they would fart on a talk show with Barbara Walters.

Does anyone here honestly believe Young didn't know exactly what she was doing when she wore a t-shirt to that state function, or Sheehan?

The protestations of innocent motive by both Congressman Young and Sheehan were so pre-contrived as to be sickening.

Like John Stewart said last night, the kiddie TV show "Blues Clues" treats his six year-old with more respect than these people treat us.

Get a hold of yourself, Sheehan is a pawn of the pacifist cowards. Before you flame me think about your existence; I presume your standard of living is good. I gamble you ate breakfast this morning sitting in nice heated space listing to Air America my point being your have nothing to complain about. You should be happy that bush co is fighting in Iraq; it gives the US a strategic foundation on which to control the regions oil riches. So you can have this asinine exchange about some hag with a brainless t-shirt.
Not that American soldiers dying is stupid, it’s not! I guess you must be a sissy, or maybe a closest avant-garde. If you’re a revolutionary, then start a revolution. I’ll let you on to a secret 99% of the people of this great land are sheep or a sleep .5% are pseudo intellects and the .5% are full aware of the state of affairs. May be you can get overweight lethargic Americans off the sofa; no wait reality TV is on. By the way what good would come from the downfall of empire America?

That's an old standard. I know several activist types who've been arrested and the only thing they were ever charged with was "resisting arrest".

TJ,

I agree it was staged....cindy says so herself she was looking for media attention, that maybe the cameras would pass by and pass over the shirt.

She knew the heavy hand of the Gov. might just do somethin UNLAWFUL.

I don't agree how the government handles such thing. Again, ourlovey Idol Rosa Parks staged the bus ride, cindy staged a T-shirt.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TommyJefferson', 'B')oth Sheehan and Young staged the "event".

Everybody staged their parts, the way the cop yelled protester to pretend like Cindy was doing something, the way his superiors and dept spokes persons had the fake story ready to pass out to the media and capture broad attention, knowing the real story that came out later would have much less coverage, the initial charge which was the best the cop could make up on the spot. Conspiracy at it's most transparent. That's America, polish your act.

Are you saying I'm old school? I guess maybe I am. It sounds to me like someone could handily win a lawsuit against the police if the only charge was resisting arrest. Doesn't a police need to have a charge before an arrest can be lawfully executed?

The USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 allows for detainment up to 72 hours on "suspicion of terrorism intent" with no charges being brought against them.

Cindy Sheehan. The Real Story

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat Really Happened
By Cindy Sheehan
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Wednesday 01 February 2006

As most of you have probably heard, I was arrested before the State of the Union Address last night.

I am speechless with fury at what happened and with grief over what we have lost in our country.

There have been lies from the police and distortions by the press. (Shocker) So this is what really happened:

This afternoon at the People's State of the Union Address in DC where I was joined by Congresspersons Lynn Woolsey and John Conyers, Ann Wright, Malik Rahim and John Cavanagh, Lynn brought me a ticket to the State of the Union Address. At that time, I was wearing the shirt that said: 2245 Dead. How many more?

After the PSOTU press conference, I was having second thoughts about going to the SOTU at the Capitol. I didn't feel comfortable going. I knew George Bush would say things that would hurt me and anger me and I knew that I couldn't disrupt the address because Lynn had given me the ticket and I didn't want to be disruptive out of respect for her. I, in fact, had given the ticket to John Bruhns who is in Iraq Veterans Against the War. However, Lynn's office had already called the media and everyone knew I was going to be there so I sucked it up and went.

I got the ticket back from John, and I met one of Congresswoman Barbara Lee's staffers in the Longworth Congressional Office building and we went to the Capitol via the underground tunnel. I went through security once, then had to use the rest room and went through security again.

My ticket was in the 5th gallery, front row, fourth seat in. The person who in a few minutes was to arrest me, helped me to my seat.

I had just sat down and I was warm from climbing 3 flights of stairs
back up from the bathroom so I unzipped my jacket. I turned to the right to take my left arm out, when the same officer saw my shirt and yelled;
"Protester." He then ran over to me, hauled me out of my seat and roughly (with my hands behind my back) shoved me up the stairs. I said something like "I'm going, do you have to be so rough?" By the way, his name is Mike Weight.
