Someone linked to the LA auto show on another forum I'm a member of, Bike Forums. You can find the post I saw it on here. There was a design concept for future cars, and the winner was the GMC PAD. Check it out....

Among other things, people buy the idea that the car is a protected personal exoskeleton that insulates you from the rough and tumble of the outside world. The PADmobile simply takes that idea to an extreme.

Looks to me like the designers are completely out of touch with the current state of the world and the issues that matter for their companies survival.

Or in other words, VERY DUMB concept vehicle and their designers.

I couldn't even figure out which end was the front or back. !

Although I do like the the thinking behind having an energy efficient mobile home. If the way to survive means finding work close to home then why not take home close to work. !!?

Freedom from annoying ties to land and geographic location, just the thing to create a new class of landless migrants endlessly migrating in search of work. And owning a "mobile loft" doesn't mean squat when you have to pay rent for the square footage it's parked on.

Notice that all the interior views in those photos look distorted, like a movie version of what someone sees when they're drunk or stoned. That says a lot, doesn't it?

Am I the only one here that remembers "ARK II"... a 1970's saturday morning TV show in which a crew drove around a post-apocalyptic american wasteland in a white vehicle suspiciously similar to that concept car. Throw in a monkey and a rocket-pack and it could be used in the show. Strange.

OMG! I may be dating myself here but I have actually seen that show. I was a little kid but I do remember it. Thanks for the retro flashback.
