Arresting people for a political t-shirt is not "In your face"?

The House Chaimber is EXACTLY the place to voice concerns.

Absolutely it is!

But not by Cindy and not during the State of the Union speech.

Apparently, it was an accidental expression of free speech by Cindy Sheenan - she was warm after climbing several flights of stairs and unzipped her sweatshirt, unaware that this would be interpreted as a violation of the patriot act for "demonstrating inside the capitol". There are no dress codes for guests of the House of Representatives, or specific rules prohibiting the wearing of clothing articles bearing messages.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('David Swanson, After Downing Street', 'H')ERE IS CINDY'S OWN REPORT:

After the PSOTU press conference, I was having second thoughts about going to the SOTU at the Capitol. I didn't feel comfortable going. I knew George Bush would say things that would hurt me and anger me and I knew that I couldn't disrupt the address because Lynn had given me the ticket and I didn't want to be disruptive out of respect for her. I, in fact, had given the ticket to John Bruhns who is in Iraq Veterans Against the War. However, Lynn's office had already called the media and everyone knew I was going to be there so I sucked it up and went.

I had just sat down and I was warm from climbing 3 flights of stairs back up from the bathroom so I unzipped my jacket. I turned to the right to take my left arm out, when the same officer saw my shirt and yelled; "Protester." He then ran over to me, hauled me out of my seat and roughly (with my hands behind my back) shoved me up the stairs. I said something like "I'm going, do you have to be so rough?"

I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things...I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later. I was immediately, and roughly (I have the bruises and muscle spasms to prove it) hauled off and arrested for "unlawful conduct."

I have some lawyers looking into filing a First Amendment lawsuit against the government for what happened tonight. I will file it. It is time to take our freedoms and our country back.

I don't want to live in a country that prohibits any person, whether he/she has paid the ulitmate price for that country, from wearing, saying, writing, or telephoning any negative statements about the government. That's why I am going to take my freedoms and liberties back. That's why I am not going to let Bushco take anything else away from me...or you.

Maybe someone was removed during a Clinton speach for protesting but given the past five years, we have reason for concern.

Fake WMD evidence.

NY Times false reporting on Iraq WMD's that resulted in thousands of deaths in Iraq.

Domestic spying by a president who refuses to obey the law of the land.

Backdoor deals with lobbyists in return for congressional favors.

Indictments and corruption abound.

Ok lets follow the law and arrest George Bush too. My God, we are a nation of laws.

Lucky has a point. I wonder if someone were to unfold a banner during Clinton's 1999 SOTU address. Imagine that banner was a digital photo from an american laser guided bomb hitting a commuter train in Kosovo. Would they have been allowed in, arrested, or worse? Maybe Cindy should seek the families of Mickey Leland or Vince Foster to get validation of how oppressed by the administration she is.

Evidence which the world believed I might add. Much like your doctor doesnt know whats wrong till he looks inside of you, we didnt know till we got there.

See above

First everyone is pissed because terrorist attacks happen and bitch cause we didnt know, then they bitch because we try to know when terrorist attacks will happen. Seems like damned if you do damned if you dont to me. I didnt think monitoring international phone calls to suspected terrorist networks was a bad thing. Maybe I'm a minority actually wanting a sfaer country (Yes, I know, the border. Thats a different issue, and one I have strong feelings on)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ackdoor deals with lobbyists in return for congressional favors.

Been happening since there was a politician. Doesnt make it right, but why suddenly is it a big deal? Convienence of timing?

First off she’s a pawn of the “left wing” democrats or maybe the “right wing” who knows I sure as hell can’t tell anymore. It all reminds me of the George Orwell novel 1984, we have to have someone to hate. It keeps everybody on my “side” straight and on task, and by the way I don’t even know what that task is. It’s all double speak ever bit of it, like bush saying no more dependence on foreign oil, who’s foreign? Isn’t everybody a pawn of the corporate elites?

agreed. How about no more dependence of cheap foreign made products like TVs and clothes? How about no more dependence of foreign loans? Not gonna happen, same with oil, right up to when it's too scarce/expensive to buy.

This is a bad joke! That in-famous 99% bullshit content but fancy multimedia presentation by Powell before UN Security Council was largely debunked by int. press the day after and by Powell himself a few years later. Also as I recall at the very same time there was this scandal about EU ministers and their int. partners meeting in the only bug free room in the whole UN building because americans were apparently spying on everyone and everywhere in that place..

To your credit, this has been undereported in the US media at that time. But if you have been following only the US media since 2001 to get the news you have probably some serious problems anyway..

She wanted to be. She didn't realize she would be arrested just for unzipping her jacket.

Apparently, they didn't know who she was when they dragged her out of her seat and out the door, so it's not that she was particularly targeted.

Spook-Op Hoja Like these apples?

"WASHINGTON - Capitol Police dropped a charge of unlawful conduct against anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday and apologized for ejecting her and a congressman's wife from
President Bush's State of the Union address for wearing T-shirts with war messages.

"The officers made a good faith, but mistaken effort to enforce an old unwritten interpretation of the prohibitions about demonstrating in the Capitol," Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer said in a statement late Wednesday."

So a congress-mans WIFE as well? Also, there seems to be NO LAW against wearing a politicaly sloganed T-shirt.

HA! Only public outcry forced them actualy UPHOLD THE LAW when there is no law against, a tiny bit of freedom vs. facisim.

Yo Slop-ops007,

SHE WAS ARRESTED FOR HER SHIRT.

AND RELEASED because it was all HOGWASH, including your undertsanding of the "law" against political shirts.

ONLY public outcry allowed for the the correct (tho delayed) exercise of the law, not some "Recent years" policy:

"WASHINGTON - Capitol Police dropped a charge of unlawful conduct against anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday and apologized for ejecting her and a congressman's wife from

The funny thing is only Sheehan was arrested, the Congress wife was just asked to leave. She said she wore the same sweatshirt last year for the SOTU and had no problem, and she would wear it again.
