PMS-

Time to get serious, I can tell it's not cute anymore. Get some mice/rat poison. Standard Green pellets loaded with vitamin K. It does something to their blood and makes them thirsty. They will leave your residence to die searching for large pools of water. Place poison traps along areas of travel(floor meets wall). Set at least 4 stratigic bait stations and mix it up with 4-6 spring traps. Use the plastic ones, they are 10 times easier to set and just as lethal. This sounds silly but Peter the orkinman explained to me you have to wipe them all out in one broad stroke in a decisive victory. Otherwise they will just breed a new batch in 1 week.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Thanks, Mule. Damn that's fast breeding! They breed like rabbits! I don't know how bad it is just yet but I know where they live. I've never encountered something like this before.

Oh, one more thing put some outside where the bricks hit the grass and bushes. If you can put some in between the dry wall, thats good. Talk to your neighbors, if you kill all the mice in your area but the go unchecked at the apt next door you will not have your decisive victory. Then you get to start the process all over. That will just make you angry enough to do something stupid like using a crossbow.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'A')AAArrrgh! There is yet another grown mouse! I just saw it shoot down into the stove. This means WAR. :x

 That's what sentimentality and hesitation gets ya. Traps are good. It is also super important to make sure that you aren't feeding them. Dirty dishes and food left out will become a mouse buffet. I recommend storing all cabinet food in glass jars. Metal works also, but they will go right through plastic. There really is no comprimising with mice. Ignore the situation and there will be hundreds of them chewing holes in all your food, peeing, and pooping everywhere.

Might also want to look into getting a rodent eating pet. Terriers, cats, and ferrets all can be good mousers. I'm considering rodent killing to be an essential job skill to teach my puppy. I think there is room in the world for all god's creatures. If I wander into a bear's den and get eaten, that's my own dumb fault. Same with mice entering my den.

Rat poison and rodent-eating pets probably aren't a good combination. I lost my cat when she caught and ate a poisoned mouse. (I didn't put the poison out, my neighbor did.)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Leanan', 'Y')ou definitely don't want mice living in the stove. They love stoves, since they're nice and warm. But every once in awhile they'll get trapped in the oven, and roasted alive. Doesn't smell very nice.

Alternatively, they gnaw on the insulation on the wires and electricute themselves and you don't find them till they are stinky and full of maggots.
Kind regards, Katkinkate

I'm still using the glue plates. Got another one last night. It got stuck and thrashed it's way across the kitchen and plastered the glue plate up against the wall. These things remind me of the movie Alien where the people would be hung alive in some kind of gluey cocoon. To use the Iraq war analogy a little further, I'm running an Abu Graib prison here. :? Maybe I'll switch to snap traps if I have to keep going further in this war. Then again, like SPG said, this is a bear den, and these little mice are just in the wrong place, wrong time. Maybe I'll set out poison, snap traps, and glue traps.

I keep tellin' ya, gas 'em and leave the house for a couple days. Only way to be sure. Once they're that bad you'll never get rid of them unless you pull out the big guns. Other option, call an exterminator.

You raise an interesting question which is how will I know if laying out traps isn't working? So far I got three of them and I did see a fourth one last night. Inspite of having many traps around, I didn't get the fourth one in the last 24 hours. Do you have experience with this problem, crapattack? It seems to me that if I kept getting mice stuck in the traps day after day with no let up, then I would have to concede defeat and call the exterminator. Doesn't seem like I'm there yet though.

Oh yes, much experience. For every one you see count on 20 you don't, for every one you trap same thing. They've obviously got a nest and you've got a problem. You've got to either starve them or gas them now, trouble with starving them is they can live off cardboard and crumbs

The exterminator will tell you, you might not find all the bodies after the gas. Hopefully they can find the nest. Often it's in and around the oven/stove. They like warm places. You could have more than one nest if you are trapping 2 - 4 a day. That's a h*ll of a lot of mice you got there.

Well that's just it, I'm not trapping 2-4 mice per day. I haven't trapped any in the last 24 hours. I'm very ready to admit that you are right, but only if I get to the point where I am trapping that many. This problem is only about a week old. Maybe they haven't got a foothold here just yet. Is there a good way of driving them out of the stove so I can see how bad the problem is. I turned it on last night and got that one I mentioned. I'm turning it on again right now to try again. But is there a better way to drive them out of the stove, short of gassing the apartment? What about that peppermint extract that prairiemule mentioned?

Give the peppermint a try, sure, I never have. If it's only a week old problem and you're not getting that many, sure - for some reason I thought you were getting a lot more. Sure, try a few more things. Worst thing it will do is let them breed if there is a breeding pair. Gestation is about 21 days.

 I am having a good laugh at all this. Especially the bit about sticking itself to the wall. I told you those glue traps were trouble! Don't worry PMS I'm laughing _with_ you not at you... I only find it humorous because it happened to me once.

Like I said if you have no pets knock em down with poison and follow up with snap traps. 8)

Smallpoxgirl had a point there, you probably need to check for nest/all possible entrances and seal up all cardboard food boxes etc they will chew right through them..

Check around your water heater also for nests. And unused/gap areas in cabinets (pull the drawers out and look).

Good luck!

Just mix plaster of paris with some flour real well and put in a few small piles where they move around.
They will all be statues in the morning.

They'll alll be out looking for ex-lax after eating that!

The only problem with poisons/poisonous food etc is that they end up going back to thier nest in your wall and dying. You'll be able to find them a couple weeks later by the smell. Oh and after you rip out the wallboard you can clean up the nest and entrance holes though... I have done this. I hate patching wallboard.

LOL. Thanks. No captures today. There is a fourth mouse, a little one, lurking around here somewhere and maybe more. The one that thrashed across the kitchen was the biggest one.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. When they venture out into the domain, they die, so they all stay hunkered down. It's a waiting game. The glue traps are all over, like those air-fresheners in the movie Seven.
