:(   :-D 8O  :!:

Maybe it was the ol' full-mind-empty-stomach combination.

Anyone else tossing and turning?

I use books on CD, or download my fave TV shows and make mp3's of them. takes my mind off things. Some people just listen to white noise. A friend of mind used to have to put a video of Blade Runner on every night to fall aleep.

Exercise usually does the trick. Just not right before you go to bed.

Examples of good exercise activities:

-Beating a bag with a portrait of Bush on.
-Training for "running to the hills".
-Try to push your SUV to the grocery store.

-LOL, great stuff.

I have no problem sleeping, for me, its being awake. So much happening now, so fast. Feels as though everything is building to a crescendo. I can't concentrate at work, its all I can think about all day long. Sleep is the only way to relax for me now.

try to do some quiet activity's like reading a book or meditating, before turning to bed. A hot cup of milk might work wonders, altough there are a few human races that cant drink it.

Hi: I really have a lot of sleeping problems, most relating to Lupus, a health problem. I have learned the following:
If I am worried about world situation, or personal situation, I get up, write it down on paper, and then I have put it someplace besides my mind. I then ask myself what I can do to fix the problem at this time.
Of course, lying in bed listening to hubby snore, the answer is nada.
That helps me a great deal.
Also, if the problem is real bad I create a fantasy in my mind. This always works. The fantasy is always the same with me.
The benevolent aliens show up, and get started fixing all of the problems on our planet. One of the ways they fix the problem is a virus that sterilizes us, hey, it's my fantasy, I can play it any way I want.
What really weirded me out was one evening I was watching Stargate SG-1, and on the episode the suppossedly benevolent aliens had spread a virus that was sterilizing the human race. See, I'm not the only weird one, lol.
Have a great weekend.

that is one strange sleeping pill. Was it the Daryl Hanna fitness-babe-killer routine or the incessant rain that sedated him?

My kids are older now but from 2001 to 2003 I was pulling allnighters with newborns. If you are up late watch Soul Train on BET, I'm not sure what it is but it's very soothing and relaxing.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Probably both, he was a strange boy. But Rutger Hauer has never really done anything quite so special ever since. Except maybe Blind Fury.

I've always been a light sleepr. I particulaly haven't slept well since my children were born 2 and 3.5 years ago. But since comprehending the probable future we will have I am now really struggling to get more than a couple of hours of deep restful sleep a night if I'm lucky.

I've been to the Dr and gotten sleeping pills but I don't really like what they do to my head in the morning .. feels like I'm stoned or something. On occasions I've also tried a few glasses of red, and every now and then half a bottle of whiskey knocks me out for the night. But my liver won't cop that kind of treatment for too long.

RacerJace you've been having a tough ride, for sure. I feel for you, and I totally relate to the whisky but you're right - you really can't go there too often. Sometimes when insomnia is really riding me I take a couple gravol - puts me right down, I don't like sleeping pills either, btw.

Also make your sleeping place as pleasant as you can - nice smells, clean sheets, soft music, -- hmmm, sounds good... I think I'm turning myself on here.... ok, sorry man, gotta go.

I have been having a hard time too lately. I think about it in my dreams. Even on the weekend if I go to bed late, I wake up early because I keep thinking about it. This is really hard for me to deal with.

Over the last six months or so I've been obsessive about reading the latest posts, articles or anything I can get on my PC screen that helps clarify the predicament. Tonight I spent some time reviewing a post on The Oil Drum about the carbon cycle. I intermittently discussed the sobering points with my wife and got an increasingly lack luster reponse. I eventually said sorry for talking about these depressing observations and then considered maybe I, and my wife, would sleep better at night if I just ignored the hell that we are creating and accepted the concept of "ignorance is bliss". At least I would be less preoccupied with that which I have little influence over.

Tomorrow my wife is going to see the family GP to get a perscription for her depression.
