Mouse in My Apartment

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Wed 25 Jan 2006, 00:46:35

It's a cute little gray mouse. I see it now and then scurrying around. I'm divided on what to do. Should I keep it as a wild pet or would it do me some sort of harm? I'm inclined to leave it alone but I wonder if it is a potential health threat. Any advice?

It's probably okay. As long as it hasn't been around grosse and disgusting things, it seems safe to keep it as a pet, I like to think. (But then again, it is in your apartment

There must be a clever way to let the mouse out of your house. I can't imagine killing a trespassing mouse. His journey into your house is a temporary one and he will leave on his own in a short time. Killing the mouse is not necessary.

It's some kind of bug in the system, if you respond to a post shortly after it's been posted, you may end up on top of it.

10-4 Doly... but I still say the mouse lives.

A related story... and yes, it's true. When I was a teenager I caught a rat in a paper garbage bag containing food as bait. I quickly crumpled up the bag and tossed it in the back seat of my car, drove a mile or so away and threw the bag out my window (ok, it was littering... I know). Some guy saw what I did, yelled at me, and walked over to the bag... he he he, I didn't see what happened next because I was too busy driving like a maniac to get away.

You should get it out of your appartment, and until you do keep all your food, eating utensils and crockery well covered. They piddle everywhere they go.

There are two servers. The clocks are about 1 minute off. The random server that was picked for me had the clock that was 1 minute before Shanny's.

Don't quote me on this, lol...just scientific wild ass guess, or SWAG.

I have the greatest feline mouser in North America. For lease. [smilie=XXcat.gif]

This feline has a mouse in her mouth every afternoon. She has mastered the art of eating the mouse without eating the entrails. [smilie=sign18.gif]

I occasionally have mice enter my home, usually during winter cold snaps. Most wild mice die of hypothermia. They're so small they lose heat quickly, and if they can't find enough food to keep their body temperatures up, they freeze to death. So field mice will often try to enter human homes in winter.

My cats take care of them. I don't think it's a good idea to let mice live in your house. Remember hantavirus.

But you don't have to kill it. You could get a Havaheart trap, and let it go outside.

As someone who has spent a lot of time getting rid of the filthy little buggers in my house I can assure you that you have more than one mouse.

PMS-

The good news about having a mouse is that you do not have rats. I live next to a open field and a few miles away from new construction, thus I have dealt with rats. I say it's your call since it is your castle. Over the last 6 years I come to preffer deterence over the quick and decisive saturation of rat poison loaded with Vitamin K or traps. I have a home remedy that works pretty good. I have a inside cat, but last year I started sprinking traces of used cat litter around my fence, garage corners, wood pile. This is surprisingly effective.

Does he have a name yet?

I thought about that, but have decided that since I don't want my finger bit, since I don't want mouse piss all over my counters, and I don't want a whole family of mice moving in, I will refrain from naming it. Gonna get a trap that doesn't kill it and move it out.
