I know the feeling. I just realized that I don't have the stuff I need to make s'mores. :( Nothing like s'mores on a Ramadan morning. :P

How 'bout we make this the official rant thread? Anyone who has anything they need to get off their chest can do it here.

Ok, here's something I want to get off my chest:

Why, oh why did I have to be at just the wrong place, at just the wrong time and click on just the wrong link?

Today on my home from college (a.k.a. lost cause, like mostly everything else in my life) I got to thinking about Peak Oil and how I discovered it.

I was innocently browsing some threads on a conspiracy theory messageboard, when I saw the link to Savinar's site. I clicked on it, and the rest was history. The whole remainder of my summer vacation after that, contained some pretty deep thinking and a whole new outlook on life.

DAMNIT! Anything could have happened, where I would have never seen the link. ANYTHING!

A random crash, a sneeze, lag, lack of interest, lack of extreme downtime between classes on campus, I mean COME ON!

Another thing that happened to me on my voyage home, I'm looking up at the C-30ish Transport plane (not sure if that was exactly what it was, but it looked like it.) and I could have SWORN it was hanging in mid-air. I mean seriously, it looked like it wasn't moving at all.

And I'm like, so now the government is working on a VTOL C-30?

I thought about ranting about politics, but I don't have the energy to do that anymore.

Here's my rant, and it's a common one at these forums. People here dwell too much of the problems, are quick to dismiss any possible solutions (sometimes writing off people who suggest them as "trolls"), and overexaggerate the severity of the situation. It almost sounds like the majority of us want the future to be as terrible as possible. Of course, this isn't true for everyone, but I feel it's true for the collective.

Damn.
Hubby wants to buy a nice flat in the ancient center of Rome. I'd love it. But I told him in 4 or 5 years we will be in a nightmare being in the center. He yelled at me I'm nut.
Damn.

How big are the chances to live precisely when a civilisation is going through it's peak and breaks down? The general acceleration that Alvin Toffler was so insistant about in the old fashioned "Future Shock" makes it possible to experience what was not possible in a lifetime during the decline of the Roman empire let's say. I keep going back to this website because I am not able to digest the magnitude of the consequences of peak oil. I guess, as every fellow-peakoiler all that differenciates us from the rest is a certain awareness which might not mean much in the larger context. In German this is called "starker Tobak".

I went to McDonalds to find out that alot of their meals has increased in prices. Seeing how I'm a student and I don't have much money, I still ended up paying the extra. Greedy corporate giants trying to increase their profit.

On another note, I cut school today. It's pretty pointless, so I don't really bother, it's Friday anyways.

I'm 53 years old. I have a lot of empathy for the younger members on here. I have been fighting this as an ecological issue for over 30 years. For me, it was always about the harm being done to the environment and global warming due to burning fossil fuels. Everything I feared is coming true. You younger folks obviously feel short-changed. And you were, and so was I. Hopes and dreams have been shattered. It is hard to know where to put your energies; where you should focus. Find a niche to occupy that gives you a sense of satisfaction; something that supports your values. We must all learn to play the cards we have been dealt the best we can. For what it is worth, I am sorry that we didn't do a better job of leaving you a future.

Do you really believe you need to learn to drive? I can't drive, and I'm definitely not learning.

Well, "some people say" that Fox is a first rate source of unbiased news.

What will arrive first? Peak Oil or the Second Coming? My money is now on the latter.
