3D Studio Max classes, in San Francisco, Looking for

Well I've asked around with no finds so far.

I'd like to take a 3 month class in this program. I've tried conventional things like Heald, college of extended learning/ open university options for local universities, etc.

Kinetix, the company that makes the program, I think charges about $1000 a week for training.

There's no real relation to Peak Oil except that some of my "learning animations" would integrate some of my 3D drawings, which are peak oil related.

3D Studio Max, if anybody is interested, has about the best download/demo I've ever seen. It is a full-function version that merely expires after 30 days.

So, I just got an email from SF State telling me they have everything but 3D Max. (all the other Autodesk products).

In the meantime I'm stepping through the Max tutorials.

Also, Viz 4 <---> 3D Studio Max 6; same program for all intensive purposes. I think 3D Studio Max has slightly more customization for animation and the like, though.

You should really step up to Maya.

Man, I wish I knew how to use that program! :P

switching to maya depends on what you are using your graphics for...

I heard that autodesk bought alias? hmm, that could make life interesting

Autodesk has been buying up a lot of smaller companies in the past few years. I've not had many issues with Autodesk, other than the insane price for Autocad. They've developed fairly reliable programs as far as I can tell.

yeah, well, when I was in the business, there were something like 8 millon copies of autocad in use...three million or more were illegal. It takes a lot of money and resources to develop a product like that, and unfortunately, the people that have to buy it are the ones that have to pay for those who steal it.

Besides, for companies that really use autocad make tons of money off of it.

I can appreciate their effort, but please tell me the qualitative differences between AutoCAD 2002 and 2004, 2005 or 2006 that justify the price of upgrading, other than a few 'tweaks' and a current splash screen. I've used all versions, and I can barely see the difference. Alright, I jest, there is a noticeable difference between 2005 and 2006, but certainly not 2000, 2002 <-> 2005. This occurence isn't unique to Autodesk though, as other software makers do it all the time - Microsoft, Adobe, you name it.

Man, I would love to go to just one computer hardware/software convention, just to see what all the noise is about. I'd bet the conventioneers probably get free copies of new licensed software, too. :x :P

It is even more fun if you are part of the show! The food and the parties would knock your socks off. Softimage always threw the best ones.
