$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'I')t's been getting into the upper 30s (°F) to lower 40s a lot. Our low so far this winter was 16°F. I would not need the electric blanket if I had my down comforter, but my husband is using it (we don't sleep in the same bed).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PrairieMule', 'T')ommy,

You and I both know hot weather is the real issue in Texas. SO PAY ATTENTION TEXANS!!! A few years ago I bought one of these.

It's a hennesey hammock and it's hands down the greatest thing ever to come out of Canada. I have camped out here in Texas in Sept and as long as the temp does not go above 80 you will get a good night sleep. I have 2 hammocks and plan to aquire 1 more for my kids to sleep in if the a/c goes out.

We plan to build a sleeping porch and maybe use hammocks (if our backs can take it). We don't have AC in the bedroom anyway, in fact, we don't have central AC at all.

Good grief mule. You need to turn the furnace off.

Go spend $285 on a sleeping bag, jacket, hat and mittens. For that money you can get top quality, and you will never be cold again. If you have some money left over, consider getting a dog or two.

I haven't needed to run the heat in my cabin at all this week. We're having a warm snap, but sure not as warm as yours:

Ludi,

If you get a Hammock get the Brazillian style where you lay at a 25 degree angle it's like sleeping on a perfectly level cot which is good for your back. Also get one with a nylon fabric that lets the heat dissapate better than solid cotton/poly weave.

I called the Gas company and I am having them come out and check my meter again. I'm still looking for the leak in my house...

A very recent issue of Home Power magazine had i little DIY article on a solar thermosiphon for space heating. I am seriously looking into it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gnm', 'l')ook into "ammonia cycle refrigeration" - All you need is heat - and a wood fired boiler (or solar thermal collector) will do!

Cool. Thanks. I'll look into it.

Yesterday I rode my motorcycle around Waco and Temple, Texas. The humidity there is lower than here in the pine forests. The soil looks to have more loam. I wonder about their water table.

Even with the lower humidity than here in the pine forests, I could not imagine living there without air conditioning.
