$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('katkinkate', 'A')ll other civilisations and empires have fallen in the past and there is no reason to believe our's won't as well, eventually. So I would say total collapse is 100% likely. The real question is when. Will peak oil be the reason or will we stumble along until something else deals the death blow?
While the empires collapse, there legacies live on.
banking still exists, written language, science and all other manner of legacies live on. So, while the empire that created banking has faded into the pages of time, the idea of banking has existed since inception.
So, to say we'll see a collapse of the institutions is a bit of a stretch, however we may see a collapse of certain empires, or at the least a restructuring of those empires. Some empires today have existed since the beginning of time, for example Egypt. Egypt as an empire has changed and morphed, but has in some manner or another always existed.
