Well, first of all my twin brother Sloth spent the whole time on the couch - again. So I had to feed him. He can be so lazy sometimes!

My big brother Barbarism was packing for a trip to Asia it seemed, and when that wave hit I knew I was right. My sister Sympathy followed him shortly thereafter. I was going to go, but then I thought Id be more comfortable staying on the outside looking in.

I got a lot of gifts, but I didn't bother opening them . Just couldn't seem to get excited enough.

When the new year came around I made six resolutions! Don't remember what they where so I guess they weren't really important. *sigh* Who cares really?

Time for my nap...

To be honest, this was the worst Christmas I've ever had. And that is bad considering I spent one Christmas on an observation post in South Lebanon and another in tent in East Africa.

This was my first Christmas as a peak oiler and the whole thing disgusted me. Back in the 1930's Ireland built it's first Hydroelectric plant with an output of 100MW. Critics at the time laughed that this capacity would never be utilised. This year the additional Christmas lights that people stuck up in their gardens, on their houses etc. took up 500MW alone.

This time last year I thought a friend of mine who had bought a new BMW 7 series was the coolest kid in town. Now the thought of a car like that (20 mpg) horrifies. (of course 20mpg would qualify as an eco vehicle in the US).

So thanks for asking Carloss but the answer is shite christmas and new year isn't looking much better :(

New Year's Party Theme

Unread postby cynthia » Tue 27 Dec 2005, 04:12:49

For our annual sleepover party this year, we suggested to our friends that the food and drink to be consumed during the New Year's weekend, come within a 100 mile radius from where invited participant lives (we're talking western Oregon, so no big deal really).
Reponses so far have ranged from, "Great idea," to: " Let me help you come up with another theme."
I'll post the results.
Happy New Year Everyone!
Thank you for being here during these interesting times.
Best,
Cynthia

will the party have a "Peak Oil" theme (along the lines of, "let's party the way people will party when 'the lights go out') ?

may i suggest a game of Sardines ? kind of like hide-and-seek, except when you find the person hiding, you hide near them. also, when i was a kid, we always played with the lights out. works better in a big house than a small studio apartment.

New Year Resolutions

Unread postby Dukat_Reloaded » Sat 31 Dec 2005, 01:04:01

What an exciting year 2005 has been. Alot has happened in the world this year, some good, some bad. I've already forgotten what my last years resolutions were, but I'm sure whatever they were I did not follow though on them. My New Years resolutions will require alot of effort on my part, but I believe if I follow through, I will reap good rewards.

1. Never touch a drop of liquor again. In all truth, I'm going to miss the liquor, the relaxed feeling, contented after only afew. I love the smell, I love the feeling of your mind swimming and the feel of alcohol fumes in the air passageways as you breath in and out, although Noticibly more heavier. But the time has come to throw away old friends and find new ones. Alcohol is no longer my friend, the cursed drink has caused more problems for me than I can shake a stick at, so old friend, goodbye.

2. Smoking. A disgusting habit, a sure sign of some underlining mental weakness if there ever was one. This is one friend I will not miss and more than happy to say goodbye to loudly.

3. Stop overeating and overdosing on JunkFood. I need to lose weight, eat much heathier, as I have been feeling my body has been decaying steadly over the last number of years due to my lifestyle. Do not buy any pre-packaged food at all except for things like cans of baked beans and other survival foods, all foods must be natural, nothing processed.

4. Streamline my financies. Call in my debts, get the money and items back off from people who have borrowed from me. Also get all my savings together and also a loan from the bank and invest the lot into Oil and Mining companies. Also buy more silver bullion/scrap coins.

5. Become more positive about the future, and become more friendly and helpful to my fellow man, instead of normaly assuming the general population are generally stupid.

6. Work out the details of the above points and try to get it to all work.

Anyone else want to share their newyears resolutions? It would be really great to learn of other's resolutions and learn from them and perhaps add some extras to my own list as well.

Quit eating people.
I'm afraid They'll find out and throw me in jail.

8O Jeez, spec, you're family know about this? (what's it taste like, chicken?) Oh, and me, do more yoga and get limber, also lose the liver-fat and trim the gut. (done it before and that's a big factor, don't go resolving for something out of the blue that you probably can't do. It's like smoking, I quit that once by cutting down to one a day for a month or two and then giving up that one a day. Lasted about three years)

A new year, new resolutions

Unread postby grabby » Mon 01 Jan 2007, 12:19:47

LATEST NEWS RELATING TO PEAK OIL!
It is 2007 happy new year!
As the new year wafts in on the zephyrs, and the odors of 624 phillipinos firecrackered to death fade into memory, It is time once again for that most habitualy periodic and repeated of an oft-repeated action or series of actions performed in accordance with tradition or a set of rules .

Now izda time to make new resolutions relating to peak oil use in our humble non-Paris-Hilton lifestyles regarding on oil use.
Anyone want to share just post the changes we will make this year.

Ok Ok I'll start.

Ahem
I shall never shop at a super walrus again as long as I live,
so help me God.

5/10 rating on that one, its a pretty easy one to do....
