With Iraq an absolute disaster, the US Government is now looking to hire a consultant to figure out how to solve the war. Pathetic.

Anyone interested in a cool billion?

IRAQ: Strategic City Stabilization Initiative

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he United States Agency for International Development is seeking applications for an Assistance Agreement from qualified sources to design and implement a social and economic stabilization program impacting ten Strategic Cities, identified by the United States Government as critical to the defeat of the Insurgency in Iraq. The number of Strategic Cities may expand or contract over time. USAID plans to provide approximately $1,020,000,000 over two years to meet the objectives of the Program. An additional option year may be considered amounting to $300 million at the discretion of USAID. Funds are not yet available for this program.

Here's my stabilisation proposal:

Leave. Now.

Where do I write to for my cheque? Hey for $1020 billion I'll even spell it your way:

Please USA govt send me my check.

That was easy :)

When I get it LadyRuby, do you want your 10% as my agent?

....actually I'm almost thinking that I should write to them. After all, nothing I propose, no matter how useless or ignorant, could be as bad as the way they have screwed things up so far.

Well we've been in this thing for 2 1/2 years. I figure right about now is the right time to start coming up with some ideas on how we're going to run it :)

Place a dictator loyal to the US government on the throne. Of course he will have to be well respected amongst all of different groups in Iraq. Make the judge having Saddam on trial, sentence him to lifetime in jail, while sentencing Chemical Ali to death. That way everyone will be sufficiently pleased (I hope).

Being respected by all, the judge is placed on the throne as a puppet. The new rule will consist of a council with no real power (like the house of lords in UK). These people will be the representing the different religious groups in equal parts, not by population. Let's hope this will give a sort of "peace". And the judge will do the right thing for his people too, as peace will bring prosperity, due to increased oil production.

Oversimplified and it will probably not work, but maybe not any worse than today.

I "worked" at a government "research" facility for 6 1/2 years. I use both
of those terms loosely. This is how the game goes. When your problem is greater than the collective expertise of your professional minions, you seek
out a consultant. All that matters to the government are the credentials of this "expert" consultant. It matters not if said consultant has ever produced, made, demonstrated or shown any low, much less high level of practical thinking or skills, only credentials. The guv-ment is more interested in showing its concern over the problem by hiring high priced "expert" consultant than actually solving the problem. Solving the problem would upset the guv-ment/defense industry gravy train. Said consultant then spends an inordinate amount of time pontificating about said problem than actually providing a solution. The "expert" consultant will produce a lengthy and visually impressive "report" that reiterates, convolutes, confuses and nebulously describes a variety of "solutions."
The document will be so complex and vague that said consultant will be able to declare success no matter what the outcome. Said consultant will then be able to declare his even greater credentials in the next round of the consulting game.
No matter who they hire, Iraq will still be a cluster-fuck.
