Aloe Vera

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Mon 14 Nov 2005, 02:48:13

Can there be anything better from nature to cure problems with skin? I doubt it. I keep two big aloe plants growing on my porch. Skin trouble has always plagued me, and aloe seems to work like a miracle drug. I read once that Alexander The Great fought battles to secure supplies of this amazing plant. Soldiers cut in battle who would die otherwise would recover.

I too have been plagued by skin problems mainly brought on by my carelessness resulting in excess sun exposure over the first part of my half-century here. I now keep several nice aloe vera plants growing in my yard and periodically snip off a small piece and rub the juices over my face. I became a believer in aloe as a skin cure when a friend suggested I apply it to an area of severe sunburn. The results were nothing short of amazing.

Aloe vera and tumeric. Nature's perfect wonder medicines.

Cute.

Let me slightly change my earlier post to read, '... solely brought on by my carelessness resulting in excess sun exposure...' lol.

And I prefer, 'cantancerous', if you don't mind. :)

I had some bad chafing yesterday from walking around all day. Hurt like hell when I got home. So I put the aloe all over it a few times and today it is all cleared up. This stuff is damn good medicine. What's the story about tumeric?

PMS,

Tumeric is a general cure all. We had a thread a few months ago about it and there were several excellent postings. I'm on vacation in Singapore now (met Lowem yesterday!!! Nice guy) and am on a borrowed computer. Try googling it and you will see what tumeric can do.

For starters, it's known to be good way to temper the effects of alzheimers... and that's reason enough for me to have it almost every day.

I have a lot of sun damage from my carefree childhood in the 'sunshine state' (Queensland) as well. I know aloe is good for sun burn (I've used it myself) but does it do anything to reverse more long-term damage like solar keratoses and sunspots?
Kind regards, Katkinkate

This is no lie. I shy away 'folksy', cures, embrace others depending on the situation. Once, my hand slipped on a large kettle of boiling water and it splashed all down my front; chest, legs, and um...crotch. I just happened to have a huge Aloe stalk in my fridge. I quickly split it and smeared the slimey juice all over my front; by this time everything was bright red and hurting. In the morning the entire brun area wasn't even red. No bullshit...this stuff is pure godsend.

I have a skin problem in my ear, yes it looks as horrid as it sounds.

Am going to try aloe vera tonight, will report back. Please tell me if there is any reason I shouldn't put it in my ear hole.

Firstly--I'm not a Doctor, or, trained in any medical field. With that said, it is my opinion that applying raw aloe directly into the ear canal is not advisable. The moist, warm, environment of the ear canal; unsteralized [raw], aloe could in fact become a medium for bacterial growth. This possibly leading to non-related secondary infections/complications.

This is just my opinion.

As a dermatologist once told me, "...dry dry dry. Keep the skin dry."

katkinkate.

I'm not sure if it can reverse long-term damage, but growing the stuff is free so why not give it a try? I bet it's worth researching. I apply aloe vera face cream every day, but I'm not sure how much aloe vera is in the cream, although it's called 'St Ives aloe vera face cream'.

That's why I suggest snipping off a piece now and rubbing the raw slimy stuff directly all over your face. Oh yeah.

If the damaged skin is in the outer part of the ear and not in the canal, I don't see why it would be a problem. But I'm not a doctor. I just know that real aloe juice, from the plant itself is great. A good nursery should have some in your town, maybe?

I don't know that it would necessarily be a problem. You could put some aloe vera on a Q-tip and carefully apply it to the ear canal. Wouldn't expect it would hurt anything. I wouldn't fill your ear canal full of it or anything (because then you couldn't hear. :P )

Skin care is a bit more complex than keeping the skin dry. You have to know when it wants to be dry and when it wants to be wet.

Happy holiday Eastbay.. Do you like Singapore , your wife home city? Do you teach lowem about shooting ? Do you go windows shopping ?? I just don't know what to do in concrete jungle..

About Aloe Vera, Asians used them quite a lot. Last time before the age of Viagra, many ppl drink the juice for the so called Viagra effect, if you happen to be in Borneo and not afraid of anaconda, you can search around for 'Tongkat Ali' . Another natural plant with Viagra effect. So be extra careful with Aloe Vera. :P

Well I didn't try Aloe Vera in my ear, was in the outer bit of the ear canal. Was going to go and get some Anti B's from the docs if it was worse yesterday.

Was a bit better yesterday and now is much better.

Interestingly, I stopped putting antiseptic on it after Petro said might not be a good idea for it to be moist. 2 Days later its loads better. May just be a coincidence but will keep this in mind in future, I get this now and again, usually used Anti B's and have always wondered if I really needed them.

We have an Aloe Vera plant though, very healthy, we've just never used it.

Now I'm sure you were very interested in my medical complaint :)

BorneoRagnarok,

I'm fine, thanks. I like the heat. 9 days in a row of 7k runs in the mid-morning heat does wonders to your day! Today I pulled my right hamstring practicing TKD jump-kicks right after my run... darn it. I may have to run even slower tomorrow... lol. 52 years old... I didn't know what a pulled hamstring was until I was over 50 and now they hit regularly.

Lowem says I'm the first PO'er to come to visit him from outside Sg... and one loacl, in fact, fled from Sg right after seeing him... lol. We had a nice three hour visit in a local coffee shop interrupted every 15 seconds or so by large construction trucks roaring along.

Yeah, what's with all the Happy Holidays stuff everywhere around Singapore. I heard it started a bit early this year, around 10 Nov. Decorations of Christmas are found everywhere.

As most here know, Singapore is 100% dependant on oil imports. Strangely, cars are getting larger and more gas wastelul every year here. It's like a final frenzy of wastefulness, just like in the USA. I've asked quite a few if they realize gas will soon no longer be available for powering airplanes and cars and almost to a person they say technology will find 'something' to replace oil and besides, Malaysia and Indonesia and Brunei will provide Sg with oil far into the future. I think local the press has kept Malaysian and Indonesian oil production figures away from Sg readers. Man, this place will fall apart fast when there is an oil suply disruption.

Although I am well-versed in weapons, Lowem and I did not discuss firearms... lol, although most Sg adult males are very familiar with military weapons.
