Homeowners to defend bubble before U.S. Senate...

Unread postby emersonbiggins » Wed 09 Nov 2005, 15:22:14

Not really, but isn't the irony sweet?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')omeowners across the nation are being scolded for making record-breaking profits on home sales, up 52% (2004) in hot markets such as Las Vegas over the previous year. Senate and house leaders demanded that homeowners give up to 10% of their profits towards those in the renters' markets to ensure that even the poorest would be able to afford adequate housing this winter.

Fun with real quotes! (edited from oil inquiry quotes earlier today)
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')epublican Senator Pete Domenici said "many Americans believe [homeowners] are exploiting current conditions to reap excess profits." He continued, "The [homeowners] owe the country an explanation."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')enator Barbara Boxer, meanwhile, highlighted the[homeowners' thousands of dollars in profits].

She told [homeowners] their "sacrifice appears to be nothing," while working Americans "struggle" to pay for [adequate housing in a hot market].

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')emocratic Senator Dorgan: As I suspected, your industry will do nothing to lower prices. What I am proposing is that you pay a windfall profits tax on the portion of the price of a [house that exceeds 20% of the average in a neighborhood], with the proceeds going to the American people as a rebate. What do you think of that?

Housing: I love it when bubbles pop!

Unread postby Falconoffury » Sun 14 May 2006, 14:39:46

I love popping bubbles, watching bubbles get popped, and hearing about bubbles that have popped. I'll take a bubble bath and spend hours just popping all the little bubbles. I'll blow bubbles through a plastic toy only to pop them again. I love bubble wrap! I'll pop every bubble I can find on every sheet of bubble wrap I can find.

Now that I hear that the housing bubble has popped, I can see nothing more entertaining than watching all the fools get their assets popped who should have never put them in their stupid investment. People are getting stubborn and leaving their house for sale on the market for 4+ months without lowering the price. People are complaining that their life savings are ruined. I may be a sick person for saying this, but it feels good. It just feels like something that is brought back down to where it should be.

Does anyone else enjoy the concept of bubbles popping?

I feel like doing one of those "Im with stupid" style things, except with "Im with doomer". Yeah it's fun watching people get screwed thinking they are gods at investing their money. Don't know how many people have come up to you and said you were crazy for not investing in real estate.. but plenty have to me. :)

I'm waiting for the dotcom bubble to pop.

I haven't seen it pop yet. The big money keeps rolling in. Too bad I only spend it on hookers and cheap red wine instead of arable farmland and survival kits though... 8O
