Urgent: cartoonist needed (for free...ehm)

Postby Barbara » Wed 02 Nov 2005, 07:29:02

Someone offered me the opportunity to open a blog on a professional blog network in Italy. The blog will be about Peak Oil of course. They asked me to find a graphic image to be at the top of the blog, but of course I can't simply pick something from the Net neither I know anyone to help.
I just need an image of the bell curve (very simple, like the one on aspo site), and I was thinking to add a funny little man sitting on the top of the curve (the title will be something like "view from the peak").
Is there someone kindly wanting to help me? I can't pay of course, but the image will be credited.
Thanks a lot

I guess I could try to help out if no one else has already offered.

So you’re after a banner? Or just some sort of icon?
And are you thinking of anything in particular for the funny little man?

I just whipped up this little concept sketch:

Are you after a concept similar to this?
I'm not really sure what your after..

omnitir,
this is just lovely! the concept is exactly that. can you try with a man *sitting* on the top, and casual dressed? something like "one of us", not a businessman. the size will be about the example. Thanks!!!!

Nikos-spear,
omigod! I forgot completely... but anyway, since Marco doesn't even know how to begin to paint a cartoon, I'd suppose Joanna would be the same... but if she wants to try, she will be welcomed!!!

omnitir,
LOL your design is very nice! Anyway, I was thinking something like that famous sculpture "the thinker", a little (smaller) man sitting on the curve, with his face in his hand, thinking and looking down the curve. But I don't dare to ask again... ;)

Are you after a comic style of character, or something drawn more realistic?

Because trying to draw Rodin’s famous sculpture as a caricature is kinda sacrilege :P
I think it could look good drawn in a more arty style, though I thought you said you were after a funny comic type guy. The thread title does say cartoon..

Also, if it’s drawn more realistic, it probably wouldn’t be brightly coloured, so it might not be eye catching. But a more realistic drawing defiantly would have more class.

Up to you. I guess I’ll have a go at a more realistic drawing later, and see what I end up with.

Don’t know if this is even remotely what you’re after, but anyway..

Cool. I played around with some backgrounds, and with 2 thinkers. Here are the best results from that experimentation:

I tried a lens flair with this one:

I really should stop spending time on this - I've got an exam to study for. Anything in the name of procrastination! :-D

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Hey, that's pretty good Aaron! :)

I just realised that the sunset image I was using in the last images was not used with permission - even though it's only a part of a photo, it's still a copyright infringement I think.

I could look for a suitable image from the free online photo libraries, but I think Aaron's pretty much nailed it with that graph right there.

Barbara,do you remember that, its been sitting in my living room by the door for the last three years. The one I keep bumping into.lol.

Ok, first of all sorry for my absence. I have a stupid disease (a tiny wound turned into a nightmare) and I'm very stressed dealing with doctors!!!

omnitir,
the painting is excellent, but (LOL) I wanted the cartoon man sitting "like" the thinker! I know it's an heresy, but I must put something soft on the blog or people will run away: the topic is enough hard!!! So it must be a funny little man sitting and thinking and looking down the curve. Anyway, I thank you wholeheartedly for the effort... and if you want to try again, you're welcome!

spear,
yes I remember the picture and all the wonderful Joanna paintings... but they were very serious!!! As I told, I need something funny or people will be boooored by my serious talks!!! he he

How about a Humvee, plastered with Stars and Stripes, just cresting the peak?
