peak optimism

Postby NEOPO » Sun 23 Oct 2005, 19:08:49

Through a series of unfortunate events I believe I am now a doomer.

I always wanted to believe there was some hope.
Even if only hope for me and mine - my group - small groups etc etc.

Today I feel like .......like........bang!!!
Spe? do you have a big chrome dirty harry I could borrow for a second?
I promise I wont dirty the barrel and I will use a pillow so no blood gets splatted on it :)

I only have access to a .22 and I hear mistakes can happen and I do not want that!!!

I will either end it or go on to make those we refer to as "doomers" look like pussy soft landers.

Hell I might as well just let you people decide what happens next.
How about a vote????

Do you folks want another doomer or should I just pull the plug which would ultimately save some oil???

Make my day punks!!!!!! 8)

Oops - wanted to add an option #4 = get naked - find nice dank cave - paint pretty murals with my own feces???? :-D

C'mon man being a doomer is fun!! I love the looks from people. They think you're nuts. The best part is, that they are nuts, and have no idea what's in store for them!!!!

I'm actually tempted to grow a beard, put on sackcloth and walk around with a "The end is near sign". Why off yourself and miss out on the party?

When TSHTF I've got my plan in place. Just so you know I'm also a Christian and I think this is all part of the master plan. Everything is lining up, just as God said it would. Check out Matthew 24.

Neo...I hope (pray) you're not serious...

I AM a real doomer, & i don't even consider "ending it all" because i believe there's hope...and i hope i'm wrong! (and yes...i have been wrong in the past).

Pull y'rself up by the bootstraps man, and face it as it comes! That's all any person can do! All any of us can do, is all we can do. (i'm sure that sounds redundant, but you know what i mean).

Suicide is no joke and if you really feel that way, I hope you'll look into getting some help, because, hell, I frequently have suicidal ideation (for real) and even I haven't wanted to kill myself because of peak oil. Don't kid around with this, ok?

I've gotten over it, the least one could do is start making connections, then building a lifeboat to survive while the rest of the world goes down the toliet.

hear hear! Best way to get over the doomer impulse is to start a local peak oil awareness group (or something), then start doing stuff to get your members sustainable. Doom for the planet doesn't have to mean personal doom for everyone. The more people you know near you, the more you can pull together to meet each others' needs.

We had already done this.

Our plans are failing and today i was betrayed not with a kiss but a handshake.
This is nothing new to me.
"all men betray" it seems.

We have a chance to sacrifice and make nearly a quarter million dollars in one year yet for some reason the male of the other family in our group hasnt the guts to take the bull by the horns which is EXACTLY what we need to do to mitigate the ramifications of PO.

We had plans and no one seems to be bothered by the fact that apathy has overun our camp and we are not following through.
I have always felt alone in my mind and today was just more confirmation of the same.

By many measures I am not even suppose to be here so maybe just maybe its time for me to give up.

I am not looking for pity and its no ones fault but mine for believing that our collective dream of a self sufficient homestead would actually materialize.
My grandfather always told me to not fool myself.
Well I am done fooling myself.

I'm not sure of your post, but it seems like some family members are dicking you around or something. You're right you are alone (I won't get religous on this point) and it's up to you to do what's right for YOU!!!

Why can't you set up a self suffcient homestead? Is it money or something. Personally I don't think you need this right now anyway. My short term goals are to LEARN to be self sufficfient. I'm an audio engineer. What good is it to have 100,000 hectares, when I don't even know how to grow a tomato????? I mean really. Right now I need to learn carpentry, blacksmithing, farming etc. Once I get that covered then I'll look for the farm and log cabin. Know what I mean?

Welcome to the club Neo, try not to worry too much about what's bothering you. I don't know what it is, but I personally don't worry about P.O. so much anymore.

I think the idea of it gets easier to deal with over time. Even if you don't prepare for it, like me.

It seems there are people who are taking P.O. much harder than I ever did, which is weird. Eh, maybe I expected it to happen anyway. What were the odds of living a perfectly average life, even I can't have that.

Anyway, Doomers are cool, you will find a home among us. We are the ones that understand how f'ed up we really are. When the shit hits the rotor blades, we're going to be the only ones without the deer in headlights look.

One more thing...

400th POST!

Well I said become a true doomer.

Don't end it, you don't want to miss it.

Rather than being betrayed it sounds like you've been let down by someones lack of courage, maybe its good that you have seen this now rather than later.

It seems the most secure plans are those for yourself and your immediate family, but even they can be turned upsidedown through any number of unforseen events.

Neo,

It sounds like you were let down by someone you trusted. If this person was going into peak oil with you, it's better that you find out now while there's time to make better plans. It's hard to take, but some people just don't have the guts to carry through plans that change their current life.

You'll feel better when you've had a chance to think this through.

Neo,

I don't really know how you feel so I won't try to empathise. I will say this however... The sh*t hasn't hit the fan yet! Yes things are smelling pretty bad and there is a really big turd being lined up in many parts of the world ready to be flung... so.. PARTY LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW! :-D 8O

I've considered doing exactly what you describe myself but I've got two beautiful children and a loving wife that give me so much to live for. Like I've said in other posts here the head says "run for the hills", but the hearts says "have faith in humanity".

I was planning a community with family members but they changed their minds and aren't doing it anymore. But that hasn't made me a doomer in your idiom.

Don't give up. Most community plans fail, but some succeed.

Can you imagine someone in 1928 saying the bottom was going to fall out of the stock market? Ya right, never gona happen. It did and it was catastrophic. Nothing "real" or physical changed. No crops were destroyed, no factories were damaged. The infrastructure was unchanged. All that happened was the house of cards fell, killing the becoming like worm, wipes out a computer.

How could another house of cards be build so close to the great depression. It's the same out of control imaginary credit that's been built up again. Even if PO were not coming (or already here) this house of cards is doomed. We are kidding our selves that this way of life can continue like it has been.

bump

I am still here.

The people have spoken yet I want to hear more.

Come now Aaron and Monte and Peanut etc etc
Come and tell us what you think.
Come now Matt S, Bobbyboy, JD and Spe.
Come, tell us what you feel.

Within my mind is the potentiality of the darkest of them all.
To redefine the term "doomer" as I do very little "half way".
Is this my true calling?
Is this why I am here?

I dont want to die yet I dont think I wanted to be born either so really do I have a choice?
If it is my calling am I only now hearing the sounds?

34 years just fucking around???
Making babies without thought for the future?? etc etc

Come now and tell me what you see.
You dont really have to say anything - just vote please.
