Its a beautiful thing

Postby Specop_007 » Sat 08 Oct 2005, 00:59:46

Burned a new CD. Its kind of an oldie groovey kinda CD and I've been listening to it alot lately in the car so the kids have picked up on it.
Anyways, go to pick up the kids from school today and on the drive home we're listening to Buffalo Springfield - For What Its Worth. Its one of those really nice fall days, a bit brisk that makes you want to wear a sweater but makes you really feel alive. Anyways, I'm kinda singing along to it, and as the chorus comes up all 3 kids start singing.
So here we are driving home from school with the windows down on a beautiful fall afternoon, all 4 of us singing as loud as we can all off key.

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

And all I could think was its a beautiful thing. 8)

Ah, yes, Buffalo Springfield. Groovy indeed. They did some really nice stuff besides For What It's Worth. I remember seing them on the Ed Sullivan Show. I also saw Jefferson Airplane on the Ed Sullivan Show, not to mention the Fab Four.

You think that's something..my daughter has tupac cd's, and she just about freaked when I told her I used to listen to him when he was ALIVE. heh.

My son borrows my ac/dc cd's all the time.

and to keep the peace when driving together, we go in fifteen minute intervals with radio stations. Nicki will choose her favorite country station, Ronny a pop station, and I will go with an oldies or classic rock station.

We ALL sing to "hooked on a feeling"..the kids do the "ooga chaka" part. We all know "rockin robin" by heart, as well as a few others..and yes, they know Buffalo Springfield, although not by heart I don't think.

But I had a 'moment' like that last year..when we all three sang together when "house at pooh corner" came on the radio. :)

Sounds like a wonderful moment, specop. Glad to hear that you are wise enough to savor moments like that. But then, being a parent does that to you, doesn't it? :D

Sometimes my cat Scratchy likes to sing that Bobby Vinton crap, you know, Blue Velvet and Satin Pillows. Awful singer but he does tell some pretty dirty jokes. His sister Ichy has a much better voice and no, they don't like the Stray Cats, much too lowbrow for house cats.

How come your posts so often make no sense at all, Aaron? 'Clobberin' time'? WTF. Are you talking about the detergent called Fab? And how come they never called a detergent 'Groovy'?

heck, I know what 'clobberin time' means! I used to read marvel comics all the time growin up..will even peruse them at waldenbooks ocassionally and be amazed at how far they have progressed or changed since I used to read them. It is from 'the thing' of the 'fantastic four'. Didn't they come out with a movie or somethin this year? anyway, I didn't see it..

Marvel Comics! Funny thing is, I used to like Mad Magazine, and then National Lampoon, but never liked those mainstream comics. I did like the underground comics though. So OK, The Fab Four were The Beatles.

yeesh. I KNEW the fab four were the beatles..I mean, there WAS a band that mcCartney was in before Wings, right? (JK!!!) :P

seriously, tho, clobbering time meant 'the thing' was ready to wreak havoc. I would have thought the 'fab four' would have been too obvious to comment on!

Anyway, kids and I all rocked out together to some doobie brothers.."black water". oh yeah. 8) they played that song..first concert I ever took the kids too was doobie brothers..started the set off with 'rockin down the highway', and when they played 'black water', I'll be danged but if the entire audience didn't join in. :)
