Child size BOB,s

Unread postby kelee877 » Mon 26 Sep 2005, 12:12:38

My 2 youngest children and 7(girl) and 8(boy) and I have been packing our BOB winter bags(have to have different things for as opposed to summer). What would you reccomend for these..they are not large children and do not want to weigh them down..but would also like to make sure thay are equipped if for some God forsaken reason we should be split apart for a time..and the items that would be able to carry would be great for extra stock..they have a plastic bin which is in their packs all year round and ncludes basics as mask, goggles, cloths pegs, nails, combs(to hold the nails) little hands and in the off chance they want to look beautiful, vasoline, bandages, scissors, wire, roap, wet ,wirenaps, saws, toothbrush, tin foil, they also have the fanny packs and in those are their tin cans(with handles) and some tea coffee and candies supplies..
I am just wondering what to put in the space left in their bags that would be convenient for them to carry

backpacking water filtration pumps. PUP makes good models. Buy an extra filter or two. also those space blankets(they are those reflector silvery things). survival blankets they are called. they have kept me warm with nothing else in the winter. they reflect body heat back on you.

Picture

Long Lake, Little Lakes Valley, elevation 10,500.

Last week I went backpacking in the High Sierras with my 9 year old girl. It was an experiment...her first time backpacking.

Her small pack was only loaded with her clothing and a foam bed mat. I ended up carrying her pack for most of the hike.

We were able to test some of my equipment on the trip. The temps ranged from 25 to 60 degreees F.
