What is your Master Plan? WTF have you cooked up that's going to make you a feudal warrior bandit prince? How have you cornered the market on Corned Beef Hash in a can such that you will be a wealthy trader? How have you made yourself over into a superCapitalist car insurance broker such that you'll cruise right through the new supercompetitive future?

Why do you deserve to be alive? Earn it you lazy scumsucking fatbodied lazy a$$wipes! Get the F@#k down off my obstacle, Private Peaknik! What makes you worth five minutes of my time? How will you secure a water supply for yourself and your family? Where is water located near you, and where does it come from ?

Hi Ayoob, I'm going to be doing what your doing. Thanks for your help and I might ask you afew more questions later on, but Ayoob is right, if you have wealth but you can't make yourself useful, the people who are useful will take your wealth and be useful with it and you'll will be thrown into the meat mincer of life (It's true, if your only good at making money now, what good will you be in a world where there is no money). If you can't be more useful than a basic plowing animal post peak or hauling rigs/carts, your just simply going to disapear unless you head to the hills. Ayoob made a post recently which totally changed my outlook on peakoil. What I learn't from him is in post peakoil you can't just amass wealth now and expect it to carry you through. You have to become useful, you need to learn skills that will be in demand. His post here seems abit frantic, but from my experience recently of him, he's got a good head on his shoulder.

I consider myself a doomer, to protect myself I am trying to become useful for post peak. Not rich anyway.

Doomers who think they will be safe by amassing protection are actually hopelessly optimistic :)

Hi redjake, I've finally come to that realisation as well. Repeating the really simple task of amassing foodstuffs and some metals while relaxing in the shade with a smile on your face waiting for peakoil is not enough anymore in my book. Being proactive to a situation like PO doesn't really revolve around hoarding, although it's still a good idea. It really depends on how bad things get, if everyone in the world has to run to the hills, fine then keeping food and some metals is a good idea, but if things go abit differently like a highly depressed society where only 10% of the people can find work and there is no social/unemployment benifits, I want to make sure I have skills that are useful and I'm going to begin that early next year providing that things don't degrade to much over the next few years. I don't know about you, and I don't know how wealth will redistibute itself post peak, but right now I'd rather be a poor doctor (if there is such a thing) than a donald trump with the new comming age of Post P.O. I'd like to see that guys balls chewed off.

Hi Dukat

I do have a head for the hills approach to any sudden crisis, like food shortage. By the time any SHTF the wife and I will temporarily go camping :)

With a bag of Rice and some salami (Yum).

Just to escape the hoards when they are panicking, we will then return.

There is nothing wrong with trying to protect ourselves IMO. And survivalism (aka bushcraft in many ways) is really good for the soul.

I got an allotment as well and have met some really good people through it.

I think you'll do ok, 'cause you seem to be honest with yourself.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ow will you secure a water supply for yourself and your family? Where is water located near you, and where does it come from ?

It comes from the sky, you collect it on your roof and put it in tanks to store it. Is rainwater too poluted to do this in America?

Hardly anyone has tanks in the US. I have two 2500 gallon tanks and plan to get at least 3000 gallons more storage.

No problem with the rainwater around here... Erm, I guess I am one of the "hardly anyones" since I have couple thousand of water storage/pressure pump/tank etc... And another 6k up on the hill...

'course there are dozens of people around here with tanks. Its just what you have to do out here.. (NM)

As far as water goes...My state is called the land of 10,000 lakes (actually it's closer to 14,000).

Nexts is food...stockpiling, learning that cattails & acorns are eadible foods...and growing/saving heirloom seed...

Beyond that it'll be the same for everybody...ya load 16 tons, what do ya get? another day older and deeper in debt! 8O

Around here water is not much of a problem. Since we live in what use to be a swamp the water table is only about 30 feet deep and I have a hand pump that I can attach to my well if needed.

The post peak skills we are working on are food and seed production. I have built raised beds for veggie production and will be putting in some chickens next spring. I think that even in a slow crash gardening skills will be essential and profitable. Heck, crappy tomatoes in the stores are already so expensive that I can make a good profit when I take mine to the farmers market. :) :)

Now just give me 5 or 6 out of work desk jockeys and I will produce some food. Yeah, Feudal Landlord! That’s the ticket!!!

Of course make sure that water collection is actually legal 8O

Here in the lovely Emerald City, rain barrels are everywhere although state laws prohibt the collection of water...of course not an issue on the this side of the mountains...

Hi, kingmza, welcome to the forum. I saw that movie, too. Interesting thing about the movie was that an attempt to build a good sustainable community was messed up by power hungry types.
