Can a microscopic tag be implanted in a person's body to track his every movement? There's actual discussion about that. You will rule on that -- mark my words -- before your tenure is over.

I can't wait for the day when we all have microchips implanted in our heads. It's exciting to be so close...

..but it's so worth it when the McDonald's drive-through captures my frequency, knows the value meal I like and charges my credit card -- with the entire transaction taking place in my head...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think she's being serious
Let us make him who shall nourish and sustain us. What shall we do to be invoked; to be remembered in the earth.
We have tried with our first creatures but we could not make them venerate us.
So let us try to make obedient respectful beings who shall

That would be the day when I buy a gun on the black market, go underground and starts to kill everything that looks like it comes from the government.

I'm beginning to understand what all gun owning Americans are talking about. I'm beginning to understand what's going on.

No. She's not being serious. This is along the lines of "A Modest Proposal."

Hmm, let's say I go into the hospital, and I'm kind of out of it, they could have an RFID tag on my bracelet, put it in a pill I swallow not knowing it's there, would be in my system a few days, or just flat out inject the thing.

Not too hard for a hardware hacker to come up with a simple gadget to detect the things, their friend the software hacker next door to figure out how to read the data, and not even too hard to burn the things out.

I believe in having RFID chip in your wallet, mobile phone, watch or pocket, but why having them implanted in your skin. It seems to be complicated for nothing. I just don't see the benefit.

And if you don't want to be detected, you would only have to put a tin foil where your chip is and you're "invisible".

It is the same kind of prediction than the flying car in 2000.

I think your missing the point, without the chip you can't effectively participate in society. What to rent a movie, show me your mark. What to log into the interwebs? Show me your mark. What a loan? Show me your mark... and on and on.

Revelation 13:16-18
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a MARK in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the MARK, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Rev. 13:16-18

Here's a recent chipping article from the BBC:

Having a chip implanted would be beneficial in stopping identity theft.

What would have to happen before this idea would be a reality is that we would have to have a world wide economic collapse. And we are long way off from seeing that happen any time soon.

A massive drop in the dollar is at least 6 mo. to a year away.

As long a the Religious Right is throwing its weight around in politics, this won't happen in the US. At least I'd like to hope that's the case.

Given enough time this is certainly where we're headed. However, my money is on civilization collapsing before the megamachine is able to fulfill it's final aim of total control.

It's a race against time.

A. mad max anarchy die-off

versus

B. total control big brother chips in your head

If I had to choose I'd take A.

Personally, I think peak oil is going to bring a very depressing combination of both the above worlds due to the current politicians and corporations doing all they can to maintain control, and most of all, keep people dependent upon the dwindling oil supplies they have control over while doing all they can to prevent adoption of alternatives that would allow decentralization and weaken the bureacracy. We are seeing this carry out today to some extent.
The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the old growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder. ~Thomas Jefferson
