GANGS, disturbing trend

Unread postby Cool Hand Linc » Thu 15 Sep 2005, 14:32:12

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')MS-13's more prone to violence — anything from robberies to shootings to cuttings, machete cuttings, people being beaten with baseball bats, pipes," said Sgt. George Norris of the Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland.

"A lot of rapes," he added, "especially of younger females, Latino females."

However, MS-13 draws headlines for its preferred weapon of fear, the machete.

"You know, guns are real loud," Jose said. "So what they do is then they use machetes now because it makes no noise at all. By the time, let's say, you injure somebody with a machete, kill them or whatever, by the time police get there, you know, you're gone. You're way gone."

MS-13 members embrace violence because it is all they know, Jose said. Most come from the tiny Central American nation of El Salvador. It is there that they first witnessed unspeakable violence during its brutal civil war.

"Used to see bodies left and right," he said. "Headless corpse -- I mean, you know, people that were mutilated. All that kind of stuff. Tortured before they got murdered. And you just grew up with that mentality."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Mara Salvatrucha gang is involved in a variety of criminal enterprises. As with members of other gangs, MS members seem willing to commit almost any crime, but MS gang members tend to have a higher level of criminal involvement than other gang members. MS members have been involved in burglaries, auto thefts, narcotic sales, home invasion robberies, weapons smuggling, car jacking, extortion, murder, rape, witness intimidation, illegal firearm sales, car theft and aggravated assaults. In terms of drug trafficking activities, common drugs sold by MS members include cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine. Mara Salvatrucha gang members have even placed a “tax” on prostitutes and non-gang member drug dealers who are working in MS "turf." Failure to pay up will most likely result in violence.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')ince its inception in California and Washington, DC, Mara Salvatrucha has expanded into Oregon, Alaska, Texas, Nevada, Utah, Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Canada, and Mexico. MS is unique in that, unlike traditional U.S. street gangs, it maintains active ties with MS members and factions in El Salvador. Mara Salvatrucha is truly an international gang.

I expect it will become just another gang as it continues to grow and is forced to absorb run-of-the mill street thugs.

They seem to be bringing in military type personel.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'h')ad been members of paramilitary groups like the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMNL) during the civil war. FMNL was made up of Salvadorian peasants who were trained as guerilla fighters. Many were adept at using explosives, firearms, and booby traps.

.45 ACP > Machete

And considering its California, you're STILL long gone by the time the police get there. :-D

Makes you think about your security doesn't it.

I know I live within 5 miles of some gang areas. Maybe closer. I'm not sure. Can't help but wonder how many gang members there really is in my area.
Peace out!

Yep gangs don't get far against disciplined, armed, types who aim not spray and pray.

Time to declare open season on the MS-13 types though, make it legal that it's a "good" shooting and perfectly ok if you cap one of 'em. "Joe Blow was initially accused of premeditated murder, but the investigation showed the victem was an MS-13 member, so Mr. Blow was reimbursed for his expenses and work time lost while in jail for 2 days, and got a personal letter of commendation from the Mayor...." A sort of Keep America Clean campaign.... 8)

Though I hate to be associated with you ‘Gunner’ types, the old adage still applies:

Never bring a knife to a gunfight…

I’ll add:
No matter how big the knife.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

The first, unspoken, rule of gun safety is this:

Guns do not make you bulletproof.

I suppose we could add that they don't make you machete proof either.

I have heard that MS-13 has ties to Al Qaeda, is involved in smuggling terrorists across the border and possibly smuggling small nuke devices also. That, if true, is a disturbing trend indeed.

West Africa, gangs of youths with machetes lopping farmers hands and arms off. They do provide customer choice, they say "Long sleeves or short sleeves?"

My Dad in Nigeria often tells me of how things are settled with the machete.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Max effective range of machete: as long as your arm is plus length of machete

Max effective range of Mosin Naget 1891/30: about 500M

Max effective range of CZ 52: about 80M

Just don't let them get within 12 feet of you, and you will have no problem winning the "fight". Some dude comes at me w/ a machete in a hostile manner, he is dead.

These people obviously also carry guns. The gang member quoted in the article even said, to paraphrase, "we don't take out a gun unless we're going to use it". I don't see the sense in dismissing them as primitives who are unaware of gunpowder technology. They know far more about guns than most of us on this board, that's for sure.

Believe it or not in my area there were lot of Gangs – most African. They were not engage in any type of criminal activities. In our community we initiated programs to help youths, and surprisingly many of them. Today, most of them have jobs, in construction, repairing, and even high tech jobs.

I knew these gangs were not a bad, as they were called. One day I lost my bad, it had everything, money, passport, you name. I was walking next night and some black guy called me said, mister, you drop you bag here. I always used the same rout, so they knew me. Everything was in my bag. I offer them a cup of tea in my house. They were nice kids, just acted though b/c they didn’t have jobs.

Group was called “Shark” they copied the name from a movie “West Side story” loosely based on Romeo & Shakespeare.
